The rules for a Unit Citation are actually on young Private Miller's side in this situation: If you were in the unit AT THE TIME the citation was awarded, you are entitled to wear the citation even after you have left the unit. Whether it's due to transfer or discharge, it's yours forever. If you weren't in the unit at the time of the award, then you are entitled to wear the citation WHILE YOU ARE IN THE UNIT, but not afterwards. So even though young James Miller wasn't with the unit at Normandy, since he's here NOW he has every right to wear the citation that the unit has earned. It's an award for the group as a group, and that covers everybody in the future. Cobb making a stink about it just shows that he's an asshole, since he's picking on the newcomer for doing what he's honorably allowed to do.

Correct. I wore Unit Citations in the 80s & 90s for the various units I was assigned to, that were awarded in WWI, WWII, Korea, & Vietnam, WAY before my time.
