A Quiet Place is set in a post-apocalyptic landscape overrun by mysterious creatures that hunt by sound, the film follows the Abbott family as they navigate a treacherous existence where the slightest noise could mean instant death. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt deliver captivating performances as Lee and Evelyn Abbott, parents determined to protect their children at all costs.

What distinguishes A Quiet Place is its adept utilization of silence as a storytelling device. Each creak of a floorboard and every rustle of leaves generates palpable tension, gripping audiences and holding them on the edge of their seats. The film's exceptional sound design heightens the intensity of every scene, emphasizing the characters' harrowing battle for survival.

At its core, A Quiet Place is a story about the resilience of the human spirit and the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones. The bond between the Abbott family is palpable, conveyed through subtle gestures and expressions in the absence of dialogue.

Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe deliver standout performances as the Abbott children, Regan and Marcus, add depth and vulnerability to the family dynamic. Simmonds, who is deaf in real life, brings authenticity to her role and serves as a beacon of strength in the face of adversity.

We are sure that some folks will have a few nitpicks about the plot, but it still did its job for us and kept us entertained.

Yess! Perfect time for a rewatch before Day One drops this June.

Oh nice! We are in it boys let's go!

This is SUCH an underrated film. I’ve got my new projector coming tomorrow so will definitely be using this as a first watch on it! 120 inches of Oaks big shiny head. Can’t wait!! 😂👍🏻

I love this film so much. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are amazing as always (being husband and wife and parents in real life makes it work even more). And I loved the use of sound in this film. Whenever the camera went to Regan the daughter, all sound was cut (since she’s deaf) vs the ambient sounds of nature etc.

Josip Buretic

Hmmm should I watch it now or tomorrow after work 🤔😁

Alexiani Gollarza

This movie is a masterpiece, literally two pages (if) of spoken words and the rest is faces, motion, it is extremely well done. Also, the actress that makes the daughter is really deaf so, to give her this role was also big. And like Answer said, this movie was supposed to be one but people liked it so much they told John "hey, we want one more" he didn't want at the beginning but when he saw it was going to happen with or without him, he decided to do it and boy, what a perfect duology it is. Mason, to answer one of your questions, they took the kids with them because remember it was barely three months in and it is better to stay together than apart I suppose, and of course it would be very dangerous to leave them alone not knowing what they are doing

Michael

Absolutely brilliant Movie, if you taking suggestions could react to (2012) Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

Verity

Agree! The lack of exposition and the reliance on physical acting / expressions is the same reason why I love Fury Road (I know they're wildly different movies, but).

Alexiani Gollarza

Yes, I totally get your point. Even the kids, I mean the super scared face from the boy every time there's a noise is wow

Love10 ❤️

YAY ASMR!!!!! 🍿 Dave said y’all should do ASMR and I agree lol

Whiskey Hotel

Great movie but Oak was spot -on regarding the irresponsibility of getting pregnant in a post-apocalyptic world. Gives me a big throwback to Lori from TWD. I understand it’s for story purposes but am I the only one who thinks it’s completely unrealistic because no one in their right mind would get knocked up in an apocalypse? Again, loved the movie but that still irks my nerves😂

Megan

I love this movie and it is a repeat watcher for me. I think I've seen it like 4 times now. I knew the minute Emily (forget her name in the movie) was able to go through contractions quietly, she was going to make it! The entire cast did well, especially the children. We saw it in theaters and even the theater remained quiet minus two old ladies who spent 5 minutes, literally, trying to open candy. I'm talking that squeaky noise when trying to open butterscotch or peppermint candy. They didn't do it during the waterfall scene, no they waited until it went back to quiet right after. Part 2 I didn't care for but I'm excited for part 3! I believe it focuses on the day it all started.

Megan

The first movie is only a year, max, into post invasion. I don't think we know exact dates other than the son dies in 2020 and the movie flashes forward to 2021. It is possible she is already pregnant and unaware when the invasion happens. But, there isn't any way to terminate without risking her own health as food and meds are the first things that people wipe out. But I agree, generally it would be super irresponsible especially with sound being an issue. I remember when we saw this in theaters, my mom and I both questioned what damage would happen to the baby with them constantly giving it pure oxygen (I think it was) to keep it quiet. As for being realistic, people are going to have sex regardless of the circumstances. We have access to different types of birth control now and people still don't use it. An apocalypse isn't going to change that. Just take the pandemic, people got bored and we have a ton of covid babies born as a result. You'd think people wouldn't have been risking their health during that either but we know that isn't true. Same with any other deadly outbreaks throughout history. Now live in a universe where sound kills you and you have almost no entertainment except for books. People are going to go at it like bunnies.

Annie519

I really enjoy this film, the tension is so well done and the acting is brilliant, obviously they had great chemistry. I really liked that they got a real deaf person to play Regan. The sound design is great, you honestly don't want to make a noise, lol. The corn silo is a horrifying scene, mostly because real farmers have died from them, it literally sucks you in like quicksand and there really is no way to get out aside from someone else helping you. And the birth scene is filled with great tension. I also liked to explain what was going on and not just having exposition dumps they used newspaper clipping and used visuals. It didn't feel like the film was holding your hand the entire time. But I do have a few issues with it. They really shouldn't have had any music during the corn silo scene, just the noise of the corn would have made it far more intense, in fact I thought the music was too loud all-together and there really shouldn't have been music at all, maybe just a couple of moments. I thought Regan's behavior was a little frustrating, I totally get she was grieving, felt responsible for what happened and thought her dad felt the same but for her to not believe he loved her at all was a bit ridiculous, in what way had he not shown her he loved her. She was so shocked when she saw all the prototypes of her hearing aids but why? She knew he was constantly trying to fit it, she said so herself and even told him to stop. And I'm still not really sure why he wouldn't let the kids go down there. And I totally get the symbolism for the baby and it definitely made the movie more intense but I thought as characters them choosing to have another baby was selfish, unplanned pregnancies do happen but to me this felt like a cautious decision. Not only were they bringing a baby into that world but also they were putting their other children in danger. Again I get what they were going for but clearly the characters didn't think it through and they came across smarter then that. Did she wonder how she was going to be able to deliver without making any noise? Did they really think they would be able to control how much noise the baby would make? If a baby wants to cry, it will cry. But again I really do like the movie, it honestly makes me excited to see John directing other films, he did an amazing job for his first time.

J Knight

I love this because it's just like an Oscar Award Winning version of Until Dawn

Dee

Both parents also had huge packs so I think they were filling up as much as they could and with more than just meds so I don't think they'd want to leave the kids home by themselves without anyone to protect them like Emily pointed out was important but clearly ended badly anyways cause kids will be kids and I wonder how parents make it through without having a heart attack at least once a week🤣🤣 Emily Blunt sold that pain! I definitely would've died lol. Can't wait for part 2!!

J Knight

It's not unrealistic for people to get pregnant, it's just not ideal 🤣

Diego

FINALLY

Katie

Lee’s sacrifice at the end makes me cry every time

Mathilde

I agree with Oak, seeing it in theaters makes for a weird experience but I loved it, so different. When I went for Part 2 I was appalled to see a bunch of teens come in with nachos. Like, if you're here you've seen the first one, you know what kind of movie it is, why would you pick the noisiest snack? Well it was so gripping that they ended up not even eating one chip, which I appreciated a lot!

Scott Bringel

oh sweet it's on paramount plus!!! Therefore i can full length react with ya'll xD

Kathryn Murders

I didn't even think about the plot holes because I was taken aback by how beautiful the acting was and the idea of connection. No one could speak 99.99% of the time. How they had arguments, how you keep intimacy with a significant other, how to play with your siblings, how to grieve a child/brother when you feel responsible for their death. How to comunicate you love your child when they don't believe it because they feel guilt about their siblings death (something to be learned from this movie; always TELL people how you feel, don't assume they know). 5/5 for me despite the story flaws.

Tanisha Jones

I'm glad you guys mentioned it in the wrap up because the one thing that popped into my head as I was watching the movie and I said to myself "Isn't it just a smidge irresponsible to conceive a child considering the conditions you have to live with day-to-day" and I agree with Oak yeah it happens but one what think you'd use preventative techniques LOL

Deborah Rogers

I noticed that when the characters were quiet the creature opened its head more to listen harder. This made the creature vulnerable. Our world is loud, so when they first attacked they wouldn't have to listen that hard so they would be protected by its armor. We know they can swim and jump so I can see them jumping off the top of a building and landing on a chopper. Maybe Quite Place 3 Day one will show us how humans got their butts kicked

Verity

The only reason I can think of is, the pregnancy happened accidentally despite taking precautions, and they felt that it would be right to have another child due to their guilt over losing a son (and/or maybe they couldn't find a way to safely abort). It *is* a bit reckless considering they need to keep the baby in a box, but I don't mind because it makes the whole movie more tense imho xD The whole bathtub scene was so scary in the cinema

Verity

Same, I've seen it several times too! The tension is really well-done. I believe there will be 2 more movies - the prequel coming out this year, and a final part coming out next year - and then it will be finished. I hope Cillian Murphy comes back for the end, I really liked his character.

Verity

For the scene where Regan reacts to seeing all the hearing aids, I always saw it as: she knew he'd been tinkering with them, but she didn't realise just how much time and effort he'd put in. So it hit her just how much he loved her and how committed he was. That's how I interpret it 😁

Megan

Oh nice, I didn't know about a 4th! I too hope Cillian returns, I did like his character as well. I'm just as excited for the prequel as I was for the first movie!

Alex Boatman

I always thought she wasn't allowed downstairs because of all those electronics, she could have easily triggered some sort of feedback or noise and she wouldn't know because she's deaf. The only reason I'd believe he would forbid her from doing something would be for her own, and their family's, safety.

Bex Longmuir

I think they took the kids to the store because it was implied to me that they were relocating the family as they had big bags to carry and a long distance to walk. So they didn’t have a place to keep the kids safe whilst they did a supple run. Also as a parent it’s probably better to have them with you so you can keep an eye on them and not worry if they are okay without you. The reason the dad sacrificed himself was because he seemed like he was going to die anyway. If you look at him after he was first attacked by the creature, you can see he is heavily bleeding from his abdomen. He probably knew he was going to bleed to death anyway so he wanted to prove to his daughter he would do anything for her and he does love her so it was one last act of love to protect them and so they could escape.

Steven Warner

Ngl i prefer Diamond Daves ASMR recommendation 😂😂😂

Steven Warner

Honestly i did not know about Diamond Dave’s background! Very happy that you have found your family and hope one day you can consider us all apart of it ☝️🤙🏻

I enjoyed "A Quiet Place" - this is the only horror film I can think of, that I enjoy ( I mean, including AQP II ). I really appreciate that Badd Medicine was nice to the young son ( the one who played with the space shuttle toy ). I've seen several other reactors' reactions to "A Quiet Place", and I was bothered that many other reactors called the young son words like "stupid" and "idiot" - which made me feel very disheartened at those other reactors. The way I see it, the young son was just behaving naturally as a young child would, and he didn't actually do anything that was innately wrong. The way I see it, what was wrong was the alien creatures and the impossible situation that was created - a situation that forces the young son to suppress so much of himself. Great reaction by Badd Medicine! I look forward to Badd Medicine's reaction to "A Quiet Place II", which is also excellent.

Marco Gutierrez

Not really. Life has to go on. The only way it becomes the apocalypse is if humans stop being born. What they did in this movie is the most human thing of all: learn our environment and adapt to the circumstances. As we see, it's entirely possible to still have a baby and soundproof things. Sure mistakes can happen and the baby could be heard. Mistakes can happen with adults too. Like I said, the only way it becomes an apocalypse is if humans stop being born and die out. Everything else is just a paradigm shift, and you either adapt to the new reality or you die.

Marco Gutierrez

That mentality of "oh we shouldn't have children because the world is dangerous" is exactly what creates the apocalypse. It isn't the monsters that make this an apocalypse, it's humans refusing to perpetuate. The world has *always* been dangerous. Early humans had these same problems to contend with too and we still managed it. This is the entire point of "survival of the fittest". You either adapt or die, and you keep perpetuating your lessons and successful way of life down the generations. That's how we got to the point where we are now as a species. What else are you living for, eh"? Just gonna keep on wasting time and fighting the inevitable collapse because humanity is dwindling down until there's nothing left at all? Their decision was conscious, yes, because this is what life is all about. You have kids and raise them to keep the fire burning. People are too obsessed with staying alive for the mere fact of saying they're alive. They're not *doing* anything with that life, they just like saying they're still alive. It's so stupid.

Whiskey Hotel

Of course mistakes can and will happen with adults too, but are much less likely than with babies and children, especially in a world like in this movie. Personally, I’d rather not risk my baby or babies getting torn to shreds by horrific creatures with extraterrestrial super-hearing and other abilities, but that’s just me. The thing is, humans will eventually go extinct regardless of our adaptation, and that’s assuming a meteorite full of extraterrestrial super-predators never hits our planet.

Amber Walker

Literally caught myself holding my breath watching this and I’m in my own home

Lauren

This movie was so much better than most horror movies because you actually rooted for the characters to survive. Strip away the monster and the sci-fi elements, you have a story about a family just trying to take care of each other.

Ronny H

I agree with Quinn about the plot being compacted and not including the decline of civilization like other monster movies. The acting was soooo good in this movie.. there were times where I was so tense and just holding my breath.. I had to remember I'm not in the movie 🤣 love the reaction, and Dave's ASMR

drew

when i watched this in theatres i made the mistake of ordering nachos... i didnt even want to eat them bc of how quiet the whole theatre was

Eric Wallace

My theater experience was incrediblem quietest theater I've ever been in. When the movie ended no on spoke and everyone was SILENT getting there stuff. People were quiet with left over popcorn buckets and wrappers. I don't think anyone spoke until were completely into the hallway. One of the best theater experiences I've ever had

Ryan Towell

snuck a can of coke into the theater.. wrong movie to do that. :)

Aria Isara

I saw this is leaving Netflix in a few days (here in France it's on Netflix) so finally took the time to check it out with your watchalong! Good one, very gripping, I agree there's some plotholes, I'd give it a B+. I think it could have been even more daring if they chose to have no score at all. Dave's ASMR was a good idea 😂😂
