Minari captures the essence of the American dream while portraying the intricacies of family dynamics and cultural identity. This film takes us on a captivating journey filled with moments of joy, hardship, and resilience.

Set against the backdrop of 1980s rural Arkansas, the film follows the Yi family, Korean immigrants embarking on a quest for a better life. Steven Yeun delivers a powerful performance as Jacob Yi, the steadfast patriarch determined to carve out a future through farming. Yeri Han shines as Monica, Jacob's wife, navigating the challenges of adaptation while keeping their family united.

One of the film's most enchanting aspects is the relationship between David (played by Alan S. Kim), the youngest member of the Yi family, and his grandmother Soonja, portrayed by Youn Yuh-jung. Minari beautifully explores themes of cultural assimilation and the immigrant experience, offering a heartfelt portrayal of the challenges faced by those striving to find their place in a new land.

Don’t worry Dave, I scored this a 4. Everyone’s rating scale means something different. 4 for me is still a great and deeply satisfying film

You all should consider reacting you to Meet the Robinsons. It's a fantastic 2007 animated Disney film that just flew under the radar. They caught lightning in a bottle with it. I think you'd all really enjoy it. If there's an official place to request movies, please let me know. Thanks!

Didn't know what to expect going into this. Absolutely brilliant film.

Yeah, this movie hit close to home. I’m not Asian American but I am a 2nd generation American. My parents immigrated to the States to have a better life and to give my siblings and I chances they never had. As a child I don’t think I ever realized how difficult it was for them and how many sacrifices they made for us. Looking back I made so many careless comments and mistakes and it breaks my heart thinking about it. I really think this movie did a great job showing the immigrant experience and the American dream. It’s heartwarming and real.

The cards are called Hwatu. They’re a Korean version of Japanese cards called Hanafuda. The typical game Koreans play with Hwatu cards is called Go-Stop. This movie hits close to heart for me, being born to immigrant Korean parents in the 80’s (in the south) and seeing all the in home cultures you saw in the movie. 🥹 Yoon Yeo Jung is one of legendary actresses in Korea and her Oscar win was so well deserved. Thank you for watching this gem!

SPIRITED AWAY. watch Spirited Away from Ghibli Studio, please. ✨

I did not enjoy my first watch of this movie too much because i think, like you guys, i was waiting for something tragic to happen. But for this second watch, i couldnt describe how comforting it was for me. It was like witnessing your own childhood memories: you see the good, the bad, the (somewhat monotonous) daily life - and maybe not too much of the bad/tragic stuff becos our parents shielded us from the burdens.

Lil sus how you guys cannot spell "watching" correctly and yet the description is always novel-length and in squeaky clean, immaculate English. Even your pinned post has a grammatical error in the first line. Smh. Like I get that writing on your own can be hard but I subscribed because I am interested in hearing you guys' thoughts in your own words and not whatever word soup ChatGPT had thrown up that day. No one is expecting essays in the description anyways.

This is so rude, you've made all of these assumptions based on nothing. It makes since that they would proofread a long synopsis because that takes time to write out, so you go back, reread, and edit. Acting like they don't know how to spell based on two mistakes online is preposterous. Sometimes I don't proofread before I send a text message and I look back like oops, my brain was going faster than my fingers could type. Everyone makes mistakes, and if you want their thoughts they are at the end of their videos.

Bruh, you get a feel for ChatGPT's default style first and then you come back to me. Also read their descriptions. It's easy to tell when they're using AI and when their own words, because they are not very good at hiding it, or maybe they're not trying to. I just didn't spot it immediately because I went in with the assumption they wouldn't use a shortcut like this and it was very jarring how clinical and similar in style and diction the "reviews" in all the descriptions are. I'm one of those people who checks the description to get more context and additional information. Most people don't read them so that's probably why they don't put any effort into them. I don't even really have a problem with using AI for writing a synopsis (as long as they label it like "generated by AI" or something)- the problem is that it's styled like a review and there's no indicator, thus misleading the reader and pretty much wasting their time.

You are THAT bothered by ONE WORD being misspelled? Then go on a rant about how their summaries are generated by AI… like bro… please leave the negativity at the door when coming to this channel. We don’t do that here. The guys have attracted the most positive, welcoming space for subscribers/patrons, and it has been that way for years. Like the above commenter said, if you want their thoughts on the film, watch the reaction. That’s literally what you paid for? It doesn’t cost anything to be kind, and it’s not that hard to do. Do better.

玉手箱

You do better. You be kind. It's not my fault you interpret my words in the worst possible way, I was just as shocked and hurt as you. Doesn't change the fact that I'm right.

Yen Shively

You were shocked and hurt over ONE misspelled word? Okie dokie bud. Politely, Move forward with your life. It doesn’t do you any good dwelling on something so minuscule and being “shocked and hurt” over. Have a fantastic day.

玉手箱

No, smartass. Over the fact they use AI to bolster their descriptions without any form of indication.
