for the Oak specifically the small pocket for jeans is a feature still used for those people back in the day who had pocket watches The tiny pockets on jeans and some other pants were designed for pocket watches. They were first used with the original Levi's "waist overalls" jeans in 1890. People don't use pocket watches anymore, but the pockets are still around.

So, when I was in high school there was this amazing series of books covering greek myths. And it illustrated the myths with these gorgeous paintings - famous ones that didn't necessarily actually depict the myth, but artistically fit it. The one for Procrustes was a bed in an insane asylum. Fit so beautifully for the monster who would chop too tall people up so they'd fit the bed, or stretch short people on a rack to make them fit. :) Have tried SO hard to find that series again... SIGH
