Kenneth Branagh returns for a third outing as Agatha Christie's master detective Hercule Poirot in a timed-for-Halloween haunted house themed thriller that cleverly pits the famous rationalist against a threat that at least wants to APPEAR supernatural in origin: Summoned to a supposedly haunted Venetian Palazzo to debunk a supposedly psychic medium (Michelle Yeoh); Poirot instead finds himself with a series of fresh murders to solve and possibly also that of the "ghost" that was meant to be contacted in the first place. Leaner, grittier and more kinetic than the previous "big stars in fancy locations" installments; but still leaning deliberately and successfully into the unique blend of "They don't make 'em like THIS anymore!" retro-melodrama and sleuth-as-superhero iconography aesthetics - another winning installment for the 2020s unlikeliest - but most welcome! - blockbuster franchise.

For a different perspective, you may be interested in Dominic Noble's channel. His hook is that he compares the book to the movie (what was kept, changed, dropped, added, etc). Agatha Christie fans have an issue with the movies in that Poirot is not supposed to be an action star. He's a thinker not a fighter and seeing him chasing down a suspect on a railway bridge turned many fans off. But honestly, I think you would like Dominic Noble's videos and him as a person.

"A threat that wants to appear supernatural" isn't that like the whole premise of Scooby Doo?
