Greetings Citizens of the Plastic Party!  It's March and we thought we'd go way back, 20+ years to the Analog Saves the Planet days.  ASTP  (Analog Saves the Planet) was, in a way, an early version of what would become Fantastic Plastics. This was the beginning of the creative relationship between Tyson, Miranda and Dylan (Chicken Burger Disco).

ASTP started as a weird solo project that Tyson dreamt up.  A human enslaved by a laptop named Gary, forced to sing and perform for the masses. It was part music, part comedy, and totally punk rock.

Eventually Miranda, a friend at the time, would get involved, making costumes and choreographing go-go dances with her friend Denise.  Over time more people sort of joined into what became a weird electronic cabaret act. It was during this time that Chicken Burger Disco first got involved as he started video documenting the group and made a couple of music videos. (shortly after this Mandroid was formed).

The music of ASTP was experimental for the time, blending chiptune, EDM, and punk rock. The vocals are rough, to say the least; Tyson hadn't yet found his voice and it's quite possible he had yet to go through puberty by the sounds of it.  =)

We've also linked the video for "System Shutdown" by ASTP.  You might recognize the song as it later became the FP song "Evacuate" on the Malfunction album.

Fun fact... "Mr. Computer" originally started as an ASTP song, and the backing tracks are largely the same ones from back then in the early 2000s.

This is pretty cool but I just wonder why Evacuate isn’t on the song request list.

The Fantastic Plastics

Great question. It was just one we never worked up a live version. But over the last couple of years we've been getting a lot of requests for Evacuate and Clockwork. They are on the short list to play live this year.
