Greetings good Citizens of the Plastic Party. We recently stumbled upon the original demo for our song Braintrust recorded way back in 2007.  If memory serves Tyson recorded this while living in a dank basement apartment under an old Victorian house in Bloomington IL. The song was intended to be used by "Tyson and The Friction" for pre-rehearsals to prepare for studio sessions... Coincidentally, Tyson and the Friction would record a live band version of Braintrust at Jeff Gregory's studio.  Jeff, if you are keeping track, has been the guest vocalist / choral arranger on "Bad Vibes" and "Social Anxiety".

Tyson and The Friction had a short life together. Dylan (CDB) played synthesizer, and Dan Seipel from twitch.tv/DeSeipel played drums.  You can hear that live version on the video below:

Listen to the BrainTrust! God this sounded so Old School it is amazing! I hear a lot of Jane's Addiction in this "Got Caught Stealing" LOL Hope I am not off base there. Love the grungy dirty sound of this.

Forgot to mention one fun piece of trivia... The bridge / solo section is definitely a nod to a certain DEVO song about a man wearing a hat and bringing home the bacon. Tyson wrote the bridge and noticed it was very similar to the DEVO song, so he just went with it and threw in the lead synth line from the song as a temporary placeholder...and it eventually became a permanent fixture of the song... albeit with a little variation. The synth lead on this demo was played with an old Moog Prodigy... Tyson's first synth that he bought used on eBay many many years ago!

Wonder if this version slaps as hard as the bassline in the current version. My car came with a factory, built-in subwoofer so whenever this song comes on in there, it hits hard. I'll have to test and report back, =D

I always loved the version on the Tyson & The Friction album. I’m glad it’s part of y‘all’s repertoire. It’s cool to hear the “Hardcore Platics” version.

Duty Now!! I think this actually came before Tyson and the Friction and was used to learn the chords / arrangements. The live version with Dan on drums, Chris on Bass, Matt on lead guitar, and Dylan on synth is pretty dope. If I remember correctly Marsha did the backup vocals on the Friction version.
