Hello!

The GMTK Game Jam is, of course, returning for 2020. It kicks off in July and, like always, will be held on itch.io. The link is here - https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020 - but it won't work until I announce the jam at 7PM BST. But you can check out the video early, at least!

I want to say thanks to my $5 Patrons who got an early look at some logo / brand designs and helped me picked the right one. Y'all were totally right - glad I went to you for help!

Anyhoo. Chat soon.

Woo can't wait. I'm a little confused about the no sign under the dreams logo. I don't know if it means dreams is allowed or not.

Whoo-hoo! Hopefully this means I can actually take part this year and not be bound by work commitments :(

Gunnar Clovis

Hope I can clear my whole weekend this time to work on it solely!

Great! Really hope the rating/judging system is different, as it was hard to generate a lot of votes if you don't have amazing art, a big team with enough time to engage in the voting process or a lot of friends. Ludum Dares karma system is great in that regard, as you get rates in by playing games.

Thanks for pinning down the dates already. I'm excited to be joining for the second time. I am happy to hear that the voting system is getting an overhaul as it didn't feel 100% balanced last year.

Oh crikey! I just realised it's smack bang on my birthday. 😬

If we're making a game in Java, is it acceptable for the download to be just a single .jar file (plus any resource files for graphics/audio/whatever), or do we need to bundle a Windows JRE and launcher .exe file with it? Normally I'd just do the former, but I seem to recall that not being accepted in at least one of the previous jams.

Even if a single .jar is acceptable (I would assume it is) I would advise making it as easy as possible to launch the game, that way you are more likely to get reviews. This is the kind of thing you can test out before the jam so that when crunch time hits you know exactly what to do and have mostly already done it.
