Game Maker's Toolkit - Is The Swindle the first great heist game?

The Swindle makes smart use of systems and structure to turn you into a master burglar. Let's break down the ways it encourages you to get greedy and take big risks - which can lead to some fabulous player-driven stories.

I'm a huge fan of stealth games. I can't wait to play The Swindle now! I'm curious how you feel about turn-based stealth games. My gut reaction would be that it lessens the tension from each level, but I recently started playing Invisible Inc and it totally keeps the tension high. The way the level gets more difficult the longer you stay in it (gotta get that loot!) was a brilliant idea, I think.

hey! Yeah, Invisible Inc definitely proves that stealth can work when the game is turn-based. it's a different feeling though - from oh my god oh my god oh my god I hope they don't see me as I crawl through this room, to oh crap! I, surrounded by guards and the alert level just went up. now what do I do? but in general, stealth is tackled in different ways as some games make your state incredibly clear, like Volume with its audio indicators and The Swindle with its visual ones. But in others like MGS V it's a bit less clear when the enemies can and cannot hear and see you. ultimately all of these are valid, but they lead to very different sensations. I'll probably do an episode on stealth one day so I'll keep thinking about it!
