The Rise of the Systemic Game | Game Maker's Toolkit (Patreon)
Content
With games like Breath of the Wild, MGS V, and Watch Dogs 2, we're seeing a real boom in the idea of a "systemic game". In this video I want to explain what that is and talk about some of the pros and (potential) cons of this sort of design.
I want to say thank you to all the $5 Patrons who watched an early draft of this video yesterday and gave me some great feedback.
You can see it here if you're interested.
The main things I changed were: I expanded upon the awareness / rules stuff. I moved all of the "pros of systemic games" stuff into one section. I changed "stimuluses" to "stimuli" (whoops!). I added Kingdom Come Deliverance. I made a reference to Zelda's chemistry engine. I gave the video a bit of a stronger thesis. I added some extra examples.
Anyway. Cheers! I'll be back soon with the reading list and then onto another video!
