Greetings Conquerors!

So you want to add more of your individuality and flair to your newly formed faction with a banner more suited to it than the current options? Well this guide will teach you how to do that!

Firstly, there are a couple things you will need:

1. An image editing software that can edit .dds files. I use GIMP(https://www.gimp.org/downloads/) with the .dds file plugin(https://code.google.com/archive/p/gimp-dds/)

2. A banner image with dimensions of 437 x 1024 (file format doesn't matter as long as your image editing software can import it)

For the purposes of this guide I downloaded the Stark banner from Game of Thrones here: https://www.peakpx.com/en/hd-wallpaper-desktop-ajbkv and then used paint to change the dimensions to 437 x 1024.

So now we have our banner. The next step is to navigate to your Skyrim SE Data Folder then proceed to textures/Incaendo/Banners. Choose one of the banners dds files to replace and open it up with GIMP (or whatever program you're using). I recommend backing up the banner incase you want to restore it later.

Once you open it it should look something like this:

The idea here is to simply replace the old banner by placing the new banner over it. Therefore the next step is to import your new banner. For GIMP all you need to do is drag the image file of your new banner into the program. It should look something like this:

Now you have to slide the new banner over to completely cover the old one. Make sure you keep that space on the left of the banner empty:

We're nearly done!

For GIMP, adding another image just created another layer on top of the old banner so you'll want to merge the two layers. To do this you need to navigate to the layers in the bottom right corner and right click on the image layer that you added. You then need to click "Merge Down" from the menu:

Once you do this it should look like this:

Now all you need to do is go to File and then export as...

You will then need to click on the same banner .dds file that you are replacing. It'll give you a warning message asking if you want to replace. Click 'Replace':

You'll then get a pop-up to configure your save. Make sure you change the mipmaps to "Generate mipmaps"!

And there we go! The banner should now be found in the banner room!

Now have fun seeing your home-made banners raised across Skyrim!

Great guide but heads up, the links have changed and no longer function properly. The new links Gimp https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ Gimp DDS https://code.google.com/archive/p/gimp-dds/downloads
