hi guys happy holidays, and i hope you had a lovely christmas if you celebrated! providing this extended version of this reaction for the holidays hehe

this was probably one of my favorite episodes of the season. this is truly peak thorfinn and i'm so proud of him :')

Even tho Vinland Saga takes place in the times of Vikings it's characters and messages can be used on the same problems we have now. Unprivileged people in an unfair world controlled by privileged people.

Yutaka Yamada is so underrated. His ost for Vinland saga has to be one of the most beautiful in anime. He's also quit versatile. He also did Tokyo Ghoul (one of the few good things about the anime) and Great Pretender which is more jazz.

"Anger begets more anger" is the one line that stood out to me this entire season, and I would say it's one of the main themes in the Slave arc. It's also a universal lesson that can be apply to today's world.

The episode was indeed painful. But the end was epic in a way only Vinland can make it happen... A few callbacks, lessons learned and words spoken with determination and kindness at their heart.

Tears and goosebumps when you see Thorfinn talks about Vinland with Arnheid before her time is up.. Exactly like how his father did with that slave back in season 1.. And to top it of: You have Leif who see's that and gets moved how much Thorfinn is like his father. And how he casually be like: there's only 100 men so I should manage :D

Thorfinn 2x3 - “Why do we have to fear death? Do we live because we don’t want to die? Does anything good come from being alive? Not for me. Not a single good thing has happened to me in my entire life.” Thorfinn understands Arnheid completely and utterly. In the series 4 images are linked together by the visual language of the white void surrounding it. The first is Thors riddled with arrows, embraced by his little boy. The event that destroyed his innocence. The second is Askeladd slowly dying and being held up by Thorfinn. The event that forced him into finding his true self. The third is Thorfinn alone stating that he is “empty”. The time of his life of true self discovery and deconstructing himself. And lastly fourth, is Arnheid dead being held by Thorfinn. The event that seems to have solidified his life’s mission and purpose. It’s truly stunning work in visual language.
