I can’t say with confidence that this is correct or anything but the butterflies seem like they represent metamorphosis, as they often do. Especially considering the two most impactful characters, Thorfinn and Canute, both experience massive character growth this season. And all the butterflies flittering off of Canute feels like it’s pointing out the changes he’s experiencing. There could easily be a better explanation out there but that was my take away.

I think you are right about your guess with the Stag and the Wolf, representing Einar (Stag) and Thorfinn (Wolf), in that scene with Arnheid in the cart with the children. That is at least what I also thought, when I saw that scene.

Just wanted to the preface this by saying I allude to a vague spoiler about A Silent Voice below: The symbolism in the butterflies could mean multiple things and is up to interpretation. In many cultures, butterflies are a symbol of change (like caterpillar, pupa, butterfly). But in Japanese culture, butterflies can also be a symbol of the dead. I personally interpret the scene in the OP of Canute covered in butterflies as all the death around him transforming him into something that is unrecognizable. It's a somewhat recurring symbol in Japanese media actually - including stuff you've reacted to before. For example, I'd recommend checking out the scene at 89:28 of your extended reaction to ASV.

yeah same, especially since one is normally the prey (Einar, who got captured by vikings) and one is the hunter (Thorffin who was one of the vikings), but now they live together, understand eachother in this field of pain.

Alana's face when Ketil comes up on the screen is pure cinema. I know how you feel

I love that Thorfin refers to Leif as “おっちゃん(Occhan)” which is similar to “uncle” that makes me feel warmth in my hearth and my feelings ! Translation though, it says that it refers to him by his name, they missed key part :(

Can't wait to see what comes after Vinland. Going to be hard to top the last couple of shows ( Aot, JJK, Vinland) peak!

4:16 i asked myself the same question when i was watching this season. "why are there so many butteflies?" and then i remembered... butterflies sometimes are attracted by blood, aren't they? (i remembered old HxH when Hisoka was being followed by butterflies...) so i interpreted it like they envelope Canute because he's following a path of blood for his utopia, for the lost love. at least that's what i thought of it, i might be completely wrong :c
