Jafeth Díaz

Can’t wait for the next couple of episodes 🔥

i dont think shes only listening to his problems . Whatever Ketil asks, she is in no position to refuse .

The way your cat popped out at 9:30 was a literal jumpscare 🤣 nearly dropped my laptop off my lap

You're one of the few reactors who can see Ketil's weakness in this episode 😂 Even me, when i first watched this episode, kinda sympathized with him and thought that he was good because he didn't want to punish the kids. But when i watched this episode again, i can see that he's just a weak person. He didn't have the courage to stand up for the kids. And then the last scene with Arnheid... i knew that this was normal back then for slaves, but it's still horrible to see that, because Arnheid definitely didn't want to be there 😭

Pater basically helped those children get a away with a beating, if Ketil would’ve been left alone with snake and Thorgil, one of them would’ve missed a limb or so. Also Ketil is a freaking coward man, how are you afraid of your own son then force yourself to give the kid punishment when you alone have the power and authority to prevent that. Then he goes and cries on Arnheids lap, your (slave) concubine… idk man.

finding a way to hate ketil will be a reoccurring theme lol. cant wait for u to see ep 9

Viktor Engholm

The thing Ketil fear more than his son is the judgement of those he surrounds himself with. The culture demands a violent punishment, and refusing that would make him look weak u_u

Viktor Engholm

Some norse culture info: A Thing (or Ting) was a meeting of local lords, chiefs, religious leaders and other important people to discuss current issues, clear up feuds or bring judgement. Essentially the closest thing to a local government for those times!

Arnheid tells Ketil that being kind can never be a bad thing. BUT Ketil's "kindness" and dislike of anything warrior-related seems like it's out of cowardice at its very core. The same cowardice that old man Sverkel mentioned earlier. Ketil has a huge farm and has a lot riding on his livelihood. He probably feels that if people found out that Iron Fist is a lie, then he'll start to lose legitimacy among his people. And he's afraid of that. I mean I don't know. Just don't bring Arnheid into this mess. If there's anyone that seems to truly be kind, it's her. Free Arnheid

On the subject of if you're a warrior wouldn't you want to stay a warrior. Historically many if not most vikings were in to get enough money to go back home and buy some farmland and be well off enough to be able to get married.

Viktor Engholm

Yep! Going Viking was, afaik, like a seasonal job for high reward to help you and your community during the rougher times of year. Not sure how many would have it as a full-time occupation.

Pater didn't "help" those children, that's why when he mentioned the beating the frame was "twisted", like a fisheye lens (almost an exact copy of the panel in the manga, also a fisheye perspective iirc), because it's still a bad thing. Pater is similar to Stephen from Django Unchained: he's "a house slave", he's free, but still works for his former master, he protects/respect his master and protects/respect his master's "possessions" (e.g. Thorfinn and Einar from the other tenant farmers, which are practically also slaves), even if those possessions are endangered by a couple of kids that are stealing because they lost their breadwinner and have a sick mother. Pater was the one who brought up the debts that the father of the kids had with Ketil, making the crime - and probably the punishment - worse. the scene is shown in a way that we clearly see that what was done was fckd up. not only the beating, but making a 12 yo kid basically a slave just because he stole some wheat for eating, not to make a profit out of it. Thorgil was cruel, Snake indifferent, Ketil a coward and Pater basically an Uncle Tom.

i've been loving your reactions, i knew becoming a Patreon for Vinland was a good decision. i love your post-reaction discussions, you're one of the most perceptive and smart reactors i've watched. i also can't stand Ketil lol
