You have no idea how much this means to me. Edit: I'll wait for the timer reaction. But thank you, thank you so much. Edit2: Is this the one you watched first? O: I just skipped through it to see which one it was and it is the second.

Gabriel Barott

Oh you watched the second movie first. I guess I don't remember how much the first movie really adds in regards to overall story, so potentially skippable.

Alana Misako

oh i didn't know there was an order, i decided to watch this one first cause i heard this one concluded the main story and the other one is basically a spin off?? 😭

Matthias Kamm

Absolutely no problem tbh. The first movie COULD be skipped and that is exactly what I did when I watched this with my sister (who isn't into anime) just so we could watch the conclusion. Hope I didn't spoil you just now, that would be terrible. I will still love every second of the timer reaction to this one. It really ain't a big deal, trust me. The first movie 'isn't' relevant to the story.

Nancchi

Holy!! Let me sober up and I’ll get back to the full reaction lol

matthew bremmer

Thanks I needed emotional damage before bed.

Yup. Violet Evergarden: Eternity and The Auto Memory Doll was based on a Gaiden book, but it should have been watched before this one. Though I think that's the one you watched in the past. However that movie contained some info about why the business got discontinued.

Congratulations on your (effectively) completing the Violet Evergarden journey. The other movie (Eternity and The Auto Memory Doll ) is indeed a spin-off and not directly tied to the main series. It's more or less a standalone piece and fine in that sense, but does not carry the hitting power of The Movie you have just seen.

Rodrigo Flamenco

Well since you got to the ending, this movie was 100% original content. The original light novel ended in Episode 13 but there were some changes done in the anime. The one who rescued Violet in the battle of the train was Gilbert and not his brother. Here's an image of their reunion from the Light Novel moments after her arm was destroyed: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/violet-evergarden/images/a/a3/Vol2Chap7.2.png/revision/latest?cb=20180204213433 He had been promoted to Coronel and he was kinda working in Black Ops. Fighting the "secret war" that had been going on. He decided to work on that to let Violet out of the military and live a perfect life. Things were different in the train too, he didn't met Violet until it was absolutely necessary to save her because he was scared that if she saw him, she would want to join him in battle, so he didn't wanted her to know that he was alive. After that battle he apologizes to everyone for making them believe he was dead. And at the end confronts Violet, the dialogue was very similar but a bit different. He said he felt guilty because she was hurt for his actions, and that he didn't deserved to be in her life. There was a bit of an awkward moment because she kept calling him "Major" though he was now a Coronel and in the moment she couldn't bring herself to call him by his name. I like this ending better because he didn't gave up on life. But he found a way to try to keep protecting her and make sure that she wouldn't be involved in the war anymore. Here I felt that he gave up on life.

It was a great series and a beautiful soundtrack. One of my favorites. Thanks for going on that journey! If you really want a movie to emotionally wreck you, I recommend Maquia when the promised flower blooms.

Justin Navarrete

In my opinion, I prefer the movie. It sounds like the book made him out to be the shining knight saving her in the last minute. I like that in the film, he needs help. That Violet helped save him, the same way he saved her when she was just treated as a tool. But I did hear that the book has a slightly different tone than the show, so maybe it makes more sense there.

Huoxingyang

Yes! Not enough people talk about Maquia and that's a movie that really left an impression on me!

Matt Brock

Lol right? That Yuris part of the movie was uncalled for. It was heartbreaking. Traumatizing is correct.

Dylan

i think it was meant to make the whole transition from knowing Gilbert is alive to knowing gilbert doesn't want to see violet a lot more depressing, so that the thing they show after feels immediately more relieving than if it were just without the Yuris plot line. but yeah lmao it felt more shoved into the story and felt unnecessary at times

Dylan

The movie was great but I honestly perceived Violet and Gilbert's relationship to be father/daughter so that ending had me kinda jank

Benjamin Sones

After watching the fourth letter go blowing off in the wind, never to be seen again, I was like "Can someone please buy Violet a paperweight?"

Andrei Lazar

This movie always gets me. Truly a masterpiece.
