Fun fact: In the light novel hachiman show an unhelty obsession over a brand on coffee called "MaxCoffe", and he has multiple monologues on how much he prefer that coffee to anything in the world. At the beginning of this episode he is seem choosing something to drink and instead of going for his favorite coffee he chooses "Black Coffe" and then he said how bad it tastes. To me this indicates that he want to change, however, he unconscious and insecurities doesn't allow him to do it.

I've always felt like Haruno is akin to Hachiman in that she does the "right"(right for Haruno most of the time) thing but uses the wrong method to get there. I wouldn't say she's specifically being malicious, but where Hachiman has his go to self-sacrifice move, Haruno's way of moving pieces is kind of spikey to those around her.

these reactions been the only thing i look forward to when i get home from work lmao

I think Yukino is so upset this time not only because she doesn't want to see him keep hurting himself but also because his latest doing is going against so much of what she values most. From the beginning we can see that in many ways they are very similar but different at the same time, yet despite their opposing approaches one of their biggest common ground was believing superficiality does not benefit anyone. She is also probably feeling kinda betrayed/hurt after what felt like a mutual understanding and becoming closer at the end of season 1. Hatchiman's plans and refusal to change and grow was always his MO but after so many times and again with this one it makes sense why it stings way more than usual for Yukino. There is a lot going on with the characters in the show and all their relationships. I definitely felt like i had to pause a lot to really pay attention and think about the dialogue which i didn't expect going in but i appreciated that.

I noticed him intentionally buy the wrong coffee in the opening as well, but I took it in a more cynical way I think. Given that he's stubbornly refusing to shift from his usual methods later in the episode, I took this bit as yet another one of his self inflicted punishments. Like he's preoccupied thinking about how he's just hurt his friends, so when he realizes he's at the vending machine he decides he doesn't deserve his usual favorite drink and wants to hurt himself in a roundabout way yet again.

Great reaction as always Alana! just wanted to let you know you missed a cutscene after the ending of the episode, doesn't happen much in it, but some episodes might have stuff after the outro so keep an eye out for it

I read the Light Novel before watching the anime, so it's nice to be able to compare your first reaction to mine and where the differences and similarities are. Thank you for that.
