He acceptance of loss and pain is a hard one. Especially when you look at it from violet’s view. Violet only a few moments ago didn’t even know what feelings and empathy was now that she is learning what is the reward she is getting more pain. For one to learn through pain is a path of great grief and sorrows. To learn the beauties of the world to only have them be ripped from the deepest of you hearts desires is a pain we attempt to understand but is one which has no bounds. Learn of what conditional love is to learn the pain of death of one whom you love and then to go back home in realisation of the atrocities Violet committed by taking away another’s beloved just like her Gilbert is traumatic and conflicting. This was shown in her desperate attempts to bring herself to realise yes I deserved this but is the words of Gilbert which bring her back and she understands what he was saying back then, almost as a way that monologue by Gilbert was not for the current Violet but one who learns to live and love the Violet we see now. Truely beautiful writing and direction by the creators. Really makes you want to go from ‘I love you’ to ‘aishiteru’. Most questions you may have will eventually be answered just enjoy. And appreciate the show ✌🏽

Completely off-topic, I recently watched/listened to Yui Ishikawa (cv: Violet) do a manga reading on YouTube. The title is "You Who Are a Biological Weapon", and it is about a high school girl who fights all these monsters (she is classified in society as a human weapon). The thing is that the voice for her is exactly that of Violet (Yui clearly recycled it for this reading), so it is rather odd, like watching/hearing Violet the human weapon in a modern Japanese society setting. One person commented: "Is Yui Ishikawa a specialist voice actor for human-type weapons?" She does the voice for 2B (an android) in the NieR: Automata video game too.

Agree they shouldn't have kept Violet in the dark but I think there's always instances whether in fiction or real life where you let someone heal first before hearing another heartbreaker instead of piling it up in one go, tho reaction won't be any different. It's just too bad the news broke to her before maj Hodgins ever did. Now instead of Violet improving in life, everything is backfiring, what should've been a positive message of "One Day" creeping the survivor's guilt, Gilbert's brother re her bloodied hands, burned marks questioning her self worth ....

I'm so happy that you are watching Violet it's on my top 5 list of anime of all time. And it's the reason my futures daughters name will be always Violet. And good luck on episode 10😁😁

please try to refrain from leaving comments like this cause it's borderline spoilery and can set up expectations!

Yeahhh this was the first episode to really get me in my feels, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Unrelated, your Omori hoodie is dope!

"cant wait for episode #" is dumb and people need to stop setting up episodes in any way. just watch the show and don't ruin first time reactions for the reactors or the people watching because you're so excited you cant shut up and let reactors go into things actually blind.

Violet leaping across the lake is one of the more iconic scenes in Japanese animation to this day. I remember my first viewing clear as day when the flashback happened all at the same time when Violet leaped across the lake; truly heartbreaking and at the same time healing to know that you are able to finish the play you wanted about your child. Two years ago I remember there was a reddit post by a recovering veteran who watched Violet Evergarden for the first time and it was this episode that pushed him to continue his therapy. Some pretty feel-good stuff, but at the same time it shows how powerful animation can be when done right.
