God, re-watching this episode after being caught up just shows how much of a masterpiece Tappei wrote, what tremendous ability to play with foreshadowing and tie everything together. Down to the crumbs of world-building about Witches, he definitely has a knack for writing mystery genre novels... The consequences of those Trials. We'd do well to remember what happened in this arc. This is a pivotal episode on many fronts. One day, somewhat in the future, anime people will come back here on re-watches and realize what's happening... only to fall in love with Re:Zero even more.

Do we really have to wait till Monday for the finale? He said, pouting like a fussy child. The last 4 episodes of this season are just so damn cathartic after spending the entire season up to this point without the characters making any tangible progress.
