It’s not really mentioned in the anime. But melancholy was one of the original sins. Which makes Hector one of the Witches. Just as vanity (Pandora) was a sin, but later got removed. It’s just a theory. But people do believe that Roswal absorbed some parts of Hector. Hence why how he talks. Since we know Echidna can transfer souls into bodies.

Yeah, it's a pretty straightforward theory most people have. Besides the talking quirk, there's also the eye, the way he dresses... It must have influenced him over time (or right away, we don't know) I'm really curious if that's gonna get actually addressed eventually.

Just seeing Ryuzu call her Betty at the last second will always make me tear up. Beatrice has a terrible weight upon her little shoulders, that has never lessened over the span of many centuries. No wonder she is a bit tricky to handle in present time. So many things have happened and are linked to her, you have a lot of landmines to dodge to be able to get through to her.

I've been keeping my mouth shut on this until we got here. This is where one of the major character parallels comes in. Roswal is essentially the antithesis of Subaru's father. Everone else sees Subarus dad in Subaru him but his dad is oblivious to that fact because he has no desire for Subaru to be like him and wants for him to find his own self, regardless of what that may be. Roswal is the only one that saw himself in Subaru and has placed him through all these ordeals in an attempt to force his way of thinking upon Subaru and make them even more alike. Plot wise I'm forget why he was so motivated to do so, but thematically it is super interesting. In much the same way, Echidna the antithesis of Subarus's mother. This is dragging on so short version is to just look at their intentions toward Subaru. His mom said that they didn't have him because they wanted him to do anything for them. They had him because they wanted to do something for Subaru. Whereas Echidna, according to her pitch Subaru to make a pact with her, she wants to use him completely and that he may use her completely in turn. Idk if all that was very clear, I did have some wine tonight. But that's why in one of my previous comments I mentioned "Parent and Child" being the most thematically important episode of the season.
