Another person here requesting The Shop Around the Corner(1940). I like You've Got Mail, but I love Shop so much more. And I'll also echo those that recommend Joe Versus the Volcano(1990). It's extremely quirky, but it's an experience.

You know what, I kept thinking about it, and the list of big-time romcoms I made was really too white and straight, and that is a mistake on my part. So I'm going to add a round of non-white romcoms, and a round of queer ones, because the genre is mostly white-het, but we don't have to be. Here we go! Always Be My Maybe - Ali Wong takes all your favorite romcom tropes and gives them her own Asian-American specificity. Plus a Keanu cameo where he clearly relishes making fun of himself! Rye Lane - Directly influenced by When Harry Met Sally, but updated to the modern era; it doesn't remake or pay homage so much as ask 'how would a meet cute actually work today?' It shows a London full of life, art and dreams, and the lead couple is cute as hell. Like Water For Chocolate - A wonderful example of Mexican Magical Realism, where life and emotions are heightened to the point of impacting reality (sort of like a Latin Wuxia?). Here, a woman is forbidden to marry the love of her life, but finds that all her longing, lust and sadness transfer to the food she cooks for others. Bonus mouthwatering food porn for George! The Big Sick - The real story of how Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily first met, and how she got life-threateningly sick, sounds like a drama, but it's a sweet and warm story of commitment and an interestingly asymmetrical getting to know each other. Just Wright - Queen Latifah stars in this reliably charming story of tomboy physical therapist meets all-star basketball player when he gets injured and she has to bring him back to life in every possible way. It has all the expected tropes, but it's so comforting and cute, you won't want them any other way. Monsoon Wedding - A huge international hit with star-crossed lovers, big family drama and stormy revelations, Bollywood style. Love and Basketball - A great peek into the decades of loves and ambitions of two professional basketball players. Gina Prince-Bythewood said her goal was "to do a black When Harry Met Sally", and she made a true classic of the genre. BONUS: My Big Fat Greek Wedding - I mean, Greek people are white, but they weren't always considered such, and this one is full of culture clash when shy waspy Ian meets a woman… and her whole boisterous, loud, dramatic and ample Mediterranean family.

And here's the queer round! The Birdcage - Robin Williams stars in this camp queer superfun masterpiece, as one half of the sweetest couple goals ever. But his world gets turned upside down when his son gets engaged to the daughter of a conservative Senator… The Half of It - The classic tale of Cyrano de Bergerac has had a million remakes, but this queer, Asian one is particularly sweet: Chinese-American girl Ellie gets hired by himbo football player Paul to seduce the girl of his dreams, but she ends up falling for her instead as she keeps writing her letters. The Wedding Banquet - Before Ang Lee became the filmmaker of repressed British emotions, he did this sweet, queer Chinese-American comedy: A gay Taiwanese immigrant gets engaged to a Chinese-American woman to placate his parents and get a green card, but his plan backfires when his parents arrive to help plan the wedding. Fire Island - Gay Jane Austen! That really should be enough recommendation, but this fun, raunchy, gay, screwball version of Pride and Prejudice really works much better than anyone thought it could. But I'm a Cheerleader - A camp classic. Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall are absolute queer icons who get sent to a gay conversion camp run by totally straight Christian counselor RuPaul. But it doesn't seem to be working as intended, because all the attendees are delighted to be sharing rooms together... Go Fish - The 90s lesbian scene gets a group portrait in this indie series of vignettes exploring the relationships and struggles of Max, Ely and their friends as they fall in and out of love. Boy Meets Girl - An explicit but incredibly sweet and sensitive trans love story. In small town Kentucky, openly trans girl Ricki wants to find her place. Most people are accepting, but she has big dreams for her future and can't decide if she is falling in love with cute best friend Robert or newly arrived Francesca. BONUS: My Best Friend's Wedding - This one only has a queer supporting character, that's why it's a bonus. But Julia Roberts was at the peak of her romcom prowess in this antihero story of a woman trying to stop his best friend from marrying Cameron Diaz. It's a really original twist on the 'he had been there all along' trope!

Two of my favorite RomComs both star Simon Pegg. Run, Fatboy, Run, and Man Up.

I've got no romcoms to recommend, but if you like comedy in a book shop, Black Books is the goat series. Could works a bumper between serious shows^^. Surprisingly, nice movie, well done and a thicc layer of romance to not get too complicated. "I've done cybersex and always got a busy tone." could also be a valid Simone intro to the show :D

That was great. Nora Ephron is awesome, I’m assuming Simone saw those but when Harry met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle are great, the first one she wrote. All the president’s men and before The post would be awesome, about watergate and the first is about the journalists who discovered watergate, one of them being Carl Bernstein who was involved at the time with..,,, Nora Ephron

Also, I really hope you watch the best Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie: Joe Vs. The Volcano. It's a bizarre, fun movie. I was about to describe it, but it's better if you go in blind.

I really need to go to bed, but before I do, one of my favorite romantic comedies that's actually recent is the movie "The Worst Person in the World". It's a Norwegian movie about a young woman who discovers love but also who she really is. It's heartbreaking, funny, and very poignant.
