Happy Hanukkah

All my annotations in one easily-skippable comment! 0:07 "We're finally doing *this* movie." I've finally met a worse salesman than me! 2:14 Clarence Thomas' ears perked up. 2:42 Who is this person Simone mentioned? I can't help but wonder. 4:09 "An old boyfriend of mine gave me a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils..." ... and I gave him a free acupuncture. 10:08 "You're the Julio-Claudian dynasty." Hey! I didn't come here for highfalutin historical references! If you want to spout that kind of stuff, why don't you start a history channel? 12:12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VisjGPx5GTQ&t=1045s 15:15 This actually reminds me that another "place" to experience Parker Posey is her memorable guest appearance on Louie. 17:17 "Close that tab?" As in a bar tab? I don't get it. :-| 18:27 Bastards! 18:49 So Chappelle was going behind enemy lines to gather material for his show and getting paid for it. Sweet! 20:16 "Everything is a joke to you." I truly don't get this, maybe one of you can help me out. She's paying him this wonderful compliment, but she's delivering it as if it were an insult. What's going on here? 20:32 Say, that fellow looks like an old-school French nobleman, someone who would have a name like "de Bergerac"... How inexplicably out of place! 23:28 "You feel like a big fat failure now." Jean Stapleton also had a delightful small role in the 1996 Michael, written and directed by one Nora Ephron. I still chuckle at her abashing of Andie MacDowell. 29:04 "This movie definitely highlights for me just how pessimistic I am." Nonsense, George! You are but a realist! :-| And I'll wrap up by sending some love to the Big Iz, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, and his rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I

Simone, you have great taste. This was one of my favorite movies back in the day and I must've watched it 200 times. Factor in that I also owned (and re-watched many times) the box set of the Gilmore Girls series on DVD, and I have to give you credit. Great reaction guys, that was fun.

Happy Hanukkah

One of my favorite Parker Posey moments is this exchange from the Craig Ferguson show: PP: "I do watch television. I was a big Idol fan, and Planet Earth [2006]. I heard you were a fan of The Planet Earth." CF deadpan: "I like the planet Earth; it's the only one we have." PP earnestly: "No, it's a TV show." :-)

Please watch Shop Around the Corner with James Stewart and In the Good Old Summertime with Judy Garland! Both are versions of this story and both are delightful!

I am a thirty-something (can't remember, need more coffee) year old British guy and this is one of my favourite films. I just think it's a nice story, though if you put some eerie music over it and recut it you could easily turn it into a thriller about a dangerous internet stalker.

If you guys are looking for some good earlier Tom Hanks movies my personal favourites are 'The Money Pit', 'Turner and Hooch' and 'The Burbs'. 'Philadelphia' too but that one came out in the 90's

Deadly Ramon

My favorite early Tom Hanks film is Bachelor Party. It is quite unlike any of his subsequent films, particularly the most successful and critically acclaimed ones.
