Titanic never feels three hours long. There are parts that are easy to be cynical about and make fun of, but this is still impressively epic filmmaking and top class entertainment. And no one except the ones making it really believed in this film. Predictions were that it would, like the ship, be a disaster. Instead it became the highest grossing movie of all time. And not by a little. The previous record holder was Jurassic Park, and Titanic pulled in more than twice of what JP did. Titanic is still the 4th highest grossing film ever made.

Hard for me to articulate what it is exactly but the idea of the Titanic wreck creeps me the fuck out. It's just down there, surrounded by so much impossibly deep, empty ocean. Surrounded by a huge extended field of debris that spilled out of the ship as it sank. You could be floating on the surface of the ocean and straight down beneath you is just this horrendous graveyard. Experts estimate that by the 2030s, the wreck will have mostly disintegrated.

Okay I did it, watched it, for the reaction, I don't really love this movie. If I'm gonna watch three and half hours of movie I'm watching Dances With Wolves, because I love those characters, this movie, great filmmaking of course, but it's three and a half hours of me wanting to punch at least half the characters straight in the face 🤣

The guy with the mustache that Simone recognised was the egyptologist in the Mummy, oddly I think the guy who sat next to him at dinner was also in the Mummy ( the British pilot ). A great cast across the board even in small roles, one of the ships crew played Mr Fantastic in two marvel movies and Cal's man Lovejoy has been in a ton of movies including Tron and the Omen ( and he voiced the villain in Baldurs Gate 2 )

Actress Jenette Goldstein played the red headed Irish mother in steerage class who, as the ship is sinking, tucks her small children into bed and tells them a fairytale. You have seen her in two other classic rolls in two other James Cameron films Terminator 2: she plays John Connor’s foster mom who famously (as the terminator) kills her milk drinking husband with her knife arm Aliens: she played tough talking short haired Colonial Marine machine-gunner Private Vasquez (“Let’s rock!”)

So glad you guys watched this! Also, just to share another (somewhat morbid) detail, which I remembered when George made a comment about the survivors on the boats hearing the screams afterwards. Apparently at least one of the survivors reported that he/she couldn’t go to any sporting events for a long time afterwards since the cheering crowd triggered them of how it sounded after the titanic sank

Did Bruce Almighty ruin Titanic for you guys? 😆

A previous employee stepped off Titanic before the voyage with a locker key by accident. The locker key went to the locker that was holding the binoculars for the lookouts in the crow's nest. Interesting story of how crazy insane Carpathia pushed to rescue Titanic's survivors: https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/7utrhd/misc_this_story_about_the_rms_carpathias_rescue/

Back on the mid 90's I was living in San Diego and would regularly ride my bike south of Rosarito, Mexico, which is near the US/Mexico border. Along the coast there is where they built a studio and the Titanic that they used for filming. It was capable of being sunk and raised and was a 90% scale replica, so yes, those shots of people running the length of the boat is a practical shot. I would take pictures of the boat every time I rode by it and actually chronicled its construction at various stages. I just though it was strange that a ship was being built in such a weird place. I didn't realize until after the movie came out what I had actually witnessed. Alas, the camera I used to take those pictures was damaged a long time ago. Many of the extras that worked on the movie came from the San Diego/Southern California region.

My favorite quote by Simone in this reaction was, as stated, ‘Fuck, fuck, fuck-fuck-fuck’.
