A movie I never get tired of watching!

Jeff K

Starting when John Candy is in the car in the snow through the end, this movie just crushes me in such a great way. It's one of those weird convergences of both sad and happy tears, somehow.

Excelling with the thumbnail! "Those aren't Cinebuns....!!!"

I love this movie dearly, but the last stretch of the trip always felt a little weird to me that it took them so long to complete it, given they got the rental car in St. Louis, which is only a four and a half hour drive to Chicago. I realize that Del got turned around and was driving the wrong direction for a bit, and obviously the fire botched things, but still.

Please do "Uncle Buck!" This movie and Uncle Buck are my favorite John Candy movies.

Steve Martin is a comedy legend and one of my dad's favourites. I wanna recommend THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS as my personal pick for Steve Martin's funniest movie. It's a horror and romance parody made by Martin and Carl Reiner (Oceans 11 actor, Rob Reiner's dad and Mel Brooks's other half in the comedy duo that made him famous). THE JERK is their most famous film but I think you guys would prefer THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS

Also since no one has brought it up. John Hughes who wrote and directed this film also wrote HOME ALONE, NATIONAL LAMPOONS VACATION and wrote and directed FERRIS BULLER, BREAKFAST CLUB and a number of other films including SHE'S HAVING A BABY which stars Kevin Bacon. He is playing his own character from that film here when he catches the taxi as a fun injoke

To answer simones question Steve Martin says the F word 19 times is that scene with the rental agreement

Anonymous

The only reason the movie got an R rating was because of the F-Word scene. They struggled with whether to keep the scene or drop it and get a PG-13 rating instead. PG-13 would have brought a much larger audience to the "holiday comedy". In the end, they felt the scene was just too funny to not leave in and so risked less box office success. I, for one, am SO thankful that they did.

Crystal

I'd definitely suggest The Jerk or LA Story for more Steve Martin. He has a bunch of great movies but those two would be great on the show. he had such great physicality too his humor. he was our Jim Carrey but less bendy, lol

Robert Cooper

Gotta admin, this was, I think, the end of the Hughes movies, and my least favorite among them. Martin and Candy are OK, but they are almost self parody.

Who Are These People

If you like Steve Martin, 'Three Amigos' and 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' are essential. 'Roxane' (based on the French classic 'Cyrano de Bergerac') and 'All of Me' are great, and 'LA Story' is pretty good. He did a serious role in 'The Spanish Prisoner', an odd little mystery drama, if you're curious to see him in a non-comedy.

WastedPo

This is definitely not the common opinion. For many, this is their favorite John Candy movie.

Three Amigos is a classic from my childhood, but was a huge flop at the time. It's essentially the original SNL Movie, made by Lorne and starring his SNL cast. I still love it. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will never get old, Steve Martin and Michael Caine are perfect together. LA Story is unlike anything else, even for the 90s. It somehow both defies all genres, while including them as well... All of Me - you can't go wrong with Lily Tomlin, nuff said. The Incredible Shrinking Woman was amazing for its time, and still worth a watch. Excellent rcommendations, I would also add The Man with Two Brains for the old school list.

Every time I see this thumbnail I literally LOL. Best one yet.

HeyHeyJK

I think "Bowfinger" is one of Steve Martin's best but overlooked films, not the least because it also stars Eddie Murphy in an amazing role, and Heather Graham (The Hangover, Boogie Nights, etc.) is great in it, too. Such a hilarious film about making films.
