The Ring is... fine. Ringu is unarguably better.

Rachel W

A great forgotten horror film is "Angel Heart"(1987) with Robert DeNiro and Mickey Rourke.

Rachel W

Simone like journalist things--so you guys have to watch the ultimate journalisty film, "All the President's Men"(1974)the true story about how two journalists uncovered the Watergate conspiracy. It's great.

Rob Church

Just now realizing that the kid in this is the same one who played Jedidiah, the little kid in the Texas Chainsaw remake.

Jon Burrows

Do Sinister next

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

on the topic of horror...some suggestions that I think would be graet to react to. The Others (2001), The Descent (2005), and Let the Right One In (2008)

As someone who acts like Simone when it comes to anything scary... 25:40 omg you guys are evil, that scared me shitless lmao

Anonymous

I just realized y’all haven’t done a ton of horror; can we get a reaction to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre?! That’d be so much fun

Anonymous

Descent is deeply bothersome, and would be an excellent choice

voiceofreason

WTF I'm alone in my apartment its 1 am and I'm watching this on my T.V.

Anonymous

It’s definitely top two for me. Growing up in rural Texas, it can’t help but have a special place in my heart.

Jay

Simone + Sinister would be absolute gold!

PastaDon

Right!! at first I thought it was my bluetooth cutting out.. then I thought my inputs were switching on their own.. then it goes full screen and I was like wtf!! Lol.. well played George.

Richard Maurer

Let the Right One In is great, and like Ringu much better than the US remake. The Others and The Descent are good too.

Richard Maurer

I watched Ringu the first time in a dark room on a unlabeled vhs tape (showing my age) that I bought at a weird little horror convention. Fortunately no called me right after the film or I might have jumped out of a window.

Richard Maurer

That's a movie that has unfortunately been overshadowed by all the Insidious/Annabelle/Whatever sequels. I say unfortunately because Sinister was better than all of them.

Mark D

You guys gotta watch The Grudge next.

Richard Maurer

I was eventually killed by Sadako, although it took her over a decade to get around to me due to the large number people who watched the film.

BubblyRainbows

Neither this nor the original was scary to me at all, but I was interested in the mystery of this movie. Why the tape killed people, what happened to the girl, etc.

BubblyRainbows

You two are a lot of fun to watch horror content with (especially Simone! Sorry!) Now I just really, really want to see you react to the series "The Haunting of Hill House." No spoilers, but there are a few specific scenes I NEED to see Simone react to!

Danika Silva

This was a game before the movie was made 💯💯

WastedPo

The Others is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's so beautifully done on an aesthetic and acting level that the plot feels almost secondary. Unfortunately, I don't think it's available on any streaming service at the moment. It's fallen between the "copyright cracks" as happens with movies sometimes.

Jobbe Smit

You guys really should give It Follows a try, neat Australian horror movie. Australia has some great horrors.

Anonymous

Even though I prefer the Japanese version, I enjoyed this on. However if you guys ever decided to tackle the grudge I HIGHLY suggest Ju-on (the Japanese) instead. It’s superior in every way

Tyler Foster

Not sure where you got Australia from. It's American. Maybe autocorrect?

Richard Maurer

While I prefer Ju-On (of course), of the two US remakes I think The Grudge is better than The Ring. At least The Grudge is set in Japan (unlike The Ring), so it keeps some of the cultural significance of the original.

I hear you, and that was an aspect I was fond of as well. However the rest was a problem for me, they tried to play with the space time continuum as the original but it turned out to be a mess. They also left a lot of scenes out that were essential to the plot. I feel like if I saw The Grudge before Ju-on, it would’ve been really hard to follow. And that coming from someone who loves Memento. Most importantly though, I rewatched it recently, and it just didn’t hold up in my opinion whereas Ju-on (although older) still has some pretty terrifying moments. However I don’t think The Grudge is bad. Just doesn’t compare in my eyes.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, the whole space/time thing was a mess. Truth is other than YT reaction videos I haven't watch either of the remakes in years. Why watch them when you can watch the real thing.

As someone who watched both films after reading the novel they were based on, I prefer the Japanese version. I don't think it's because I'm Japanese (and bilingual in JP/EN, so I don't need subtitles in either case) since I don't care for Japanese films in general. IMO, the American version tries too hard to be scary. The novel ends with the protagonist going back to his family to have them make a copy to show to his father, while thinking that others would figure out how to save themselves, but mistakenly believe that you have to make multiple copies.
