It's a look, Simone. It's a good look. (closes mouth with hand)

Now THAT is a Best Picture nominee.

mojo shivers

A stellar film full of stellar performances. I love everything about this film especially the story because it’s a twisty mystery with tons of twists. Everybody gives their best work here.

Jeff K

Yep. As soon as I saw this, my immediate thought was, "I need to see everything with Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce immediately" because I'd seen Crowe in one or two things, but this was fully my introduction to Pearce. They're both just so good. And it really, really sucks that Spacey turned out to be so terrible as a person, because he's SUCH a phenomenal actor.

mojo shivers

Yeah, all 3 really impressed the hell out of me with this film. Spacey had such a great streak of standout performances there for awhile. It’s just hard now to separate the actor from those performances.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Brian Helgeland and Curtis Hanson (who also directed) richly deserved the Best Screenplay Oscar they won for this movie; it's truly one of the smartest scripts to come out of Hollywood in the last 50 years. A similar 1990's police/crime drama called Mulholland Falls is worthy of future poll consideration. It's also set in 1950's LA and has a great ensemble cast that includes Nick Nolte, Melanie Griffith, Michael Madsen, and Jennifer Connelly.

Now watch devil in a blue dress. Get some color in ya life lol and on this channel

Brent Petty

It was a great adaptation. They eliminated a lot from the book, but it was still a labyrinth on the big screen.

At last, a good adaptation. The book is a lot darker, and covers a much longer span of time. A good read if you like Noir.

Anonymous

Usually the book is better but I must admit I like the movie better with this one. The book is still good though.

Guy Pearce reacting to James Cromwell saying “Rollo Tamasi” is one of my all time favorite performances, I wish I could go back and see it again for the first time. Great stuff.

Hamesque

Now listen to the band Rolo Tomassi

I really dig the film, but I can only imagine how well it would work as a tv show lasting at least 10 episodes.

I've got two I'd really love to watch with you two. Snowpiercer (2013), and Only Lovers Left Alive (2014).

Anonymous

You know, that's probably how this would get made now. Serious storytelling is done through TV series these days.

Rachel W

Such a great film, great performances--Basinger won a best supporting actress for her role.

My dad saw this movie in theaters, and when Jack was shot my dad shouted ‘You can’t kill Kevin Spacey!’ His attitude has changed of course but wow what a moment and what a great movie. You should read the books. The author did the screenplay as well. Wish they made more movies like this.

redddfer44

I remember being really shocked in the movie theater as well! Slight correction, though: James Ellroy did not write the screenplay. I’m pretty sure that a long time ago I read him say ”it’s not my book but I love the fucking movie”; now, I can’t find the quote. His website lists the film as the only adaptation worth watching, though.

I try to do my requests a little more organically but I haven't seen this movie yet (always meant to, maybe this will make it happen) so I'm just gonna blurt it out: Guy Pearce is the lead in Ravenous and does stellar work in it. Based on the little bits of this movie that I have seen, it's completely different character and a good showing of his range as an actor.

Guy pearce has been making great movies for years without alot of recognition Ravenous,Memento,The Count Of Monte Christo,Lawless with Tom Hardy,The Adventures Of Prisilla Queen Of The Desert,
