This movie is such a masterpiece. It just grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the last shot. Fletcher is a special kind of evil. But he knows it. He knows what he’s doing. He knows not everyone that can be great, wants to actually put in the work to be great. That’s why the first scene of him where he finds Andrew practicing is so important. His tactics weed out those who choose to stay with a girlfriend, those who choose to have a life outside of drumming. People like Andrew who don’t want to end up like their loser father and seek to achieve greatness are the people that Fletcher is seeking through his madness.

This movie, at it's core, is really about the things that people do in pursuit of greatness. The abuse that Fletcher heaps on his students in an attempt to forge and create the best possible player, at any cost, and constantly churns through human beings trying to find the best options. The destruction that Neiman heaps on himself, and wreaks in his own life, in an attempt to be the absolute best he can be. It's all these awful things that these people do to themselves and to each other in an attempt to reach the mountaintop. And I think, in my experience, it can be frequently true to life. The ones who want it the most are willing to do things that other people are not, and that often gets them there.

Question: why is the YT edit nice and loud but the full length Patreon is so quiet? Please crank it up for the full length vids! Thanks

I've always thought the movie was about how people that want to be the best at something push themselves, their interior monologue. They create challenges and invent competition out of everyday tasks and Fletcher is an external manifestation of that interior for the audience. It's a bit too ridiculous to be taken at face value.

If you’re referring to the movie audio, I think the idea is that you’re watching you’re own copy for the full length cut so the audio is down so you can hear just your copy. For the YouTube edit you’re just watching the edited video so the movie audio has to be higher. I personally hate it when full length cuts have loud movie audio because then you have an echo with both videos playing.

im guessing in the YT edit their volumes are normalized to the movies audio so one doesnt drown out the other. but in the patreon edit, its just their recording volume. i mean easy solution is just you turning up your volume? unless youre telling us your volume is literally at max and you still cant hear them lol, in which case you got some broken ass speakers or headphones.

This thumbnail made me think of Full Metal Jacket. Sgt. Hartman: "Let me see your war face, Simone!" ... Simone:

If you think Sundance is pay to win, check out Primer. It won the grand jury prize and it absolutely didn't have the money to bribe anyone. The total budget for the film was $7000. Also, I'm with Simone on looking at reviews before watching a movie. I avoid it like the plague.

I am a massive Damien Chazelle fan I think he is one of the best talents especially for his age. I know you might have an issue with copyright but please check out LA LA LAND
