Chris Cooper is worth checking out. He’s a fantastic character actor. Lots of terrific movies and performances in his filmography.

Bourne Supremacy is a bit weaker, but it features Karl Urban. In my opinion Bourne Ultimatum is the best of the series. I would love it, if you would watch them on the channel. The one with Jeremy Renner is not worth watching. I haven‘t seen the last one with Matt Damon but it‘s supposed to suck.

Lou Gallucci

I'm gonna put out a recommendation for "Free Solo" after your reaction to the embassy climbing.

Odd Thomas

If you like Brian Cox I highly recommend The Long Kiss Goodnight, with Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis. One of the best 90s films, period.

Super enjoyed watching this with you both! :) I remember seeing each of the Damon Bourne films in theaters with an old friend. He was super rad! xD Owns a shop in my hometown that I always hung out in. :) This came out in 2002, so I was 14 at the time. For a movie that came out then it was top notch. The action, the pacing and the music all fit together so well. I hope that you both continue the Bourne series! It really is a lot of fun! Well, at least the Damon ones are. My favorite would either be this or Ultimatum. The second one is the weakest but it isn't a bad movie by any means - it just isn't as strong as the first or last.

Back in the day spy movies were pretty staid, in a lot of ways it was quite revolutionary. It hasn't aged *great* but it's aged pretty well and has some fairly good stunts. For sure the first three are well worth watching (and they get better) - the other two I think are worth watching but they're not spectacular as my memory serves. On embassies - they're sovereign territory of the country on the sign, the host country is required by treaty to protect them from the outside, but inside they are totally inviolable (and inviolable is the word used in the treaty, i.e. the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations). Headaches, dunno, maybe if you watch more of the series you'll find out ;) I have memories of really liking Ultimatum, and I don't think I was the only one.

The first three movies make up *the* best modern day trilogy imo; legacy was their attempt at a spin off/franchise after Matt Damon said he was happy with the perfect story arc of the trilogy and didn’t want to do any more Bourne. Legacy was a generic action movie, then the 5th the film…. Well I’ll keep my thoughts about that to myself. Hope you guys do the trilogy and 5th film eventually; although #2 is where shaky cam really came in to force. ETA Franka Potente is amazing and if you ever put Run Lola Run on your poll I’m there for it.

🖤"Come get THIS pile" ... totally stealing that, I feel like it's going to up my game in the bar scene LOL Anyway... Movie recs (and there is no theme to them): -The Prestige (Christian Bale & Hugh Jackman) -Ace Ventura -The Cable Guy (underrated Jim Carrey dark comedy) -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The 1990 version) -Donnie Darko -The Room (cuz I know Simone has been DYING to see that one) -Kindergarten Cop (One of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most quoted movies LOL) -Last Action Hero (A very underrated Arnold movie) -The Other Guys (Will Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg = comedy gold) -Kingpin (Woody Harrelson & Bill Murry, directed by the Farrelly Bros) -UHF (Starring Weird AL Yankovic) -Beetlejuice (I'm not sure if I heard you both already saw this one or not though...)

The Bourne Altercation LMAO

James O'Sullivan

George mentions he expected this to be more "actiony". I feel like the Bourne films paved the way for an era of grittier action films. James Bond went from Brosnan to Craig and you got the Nolan Batmans as a couple of examples. Maybe just my perception but it did feel like ridiculous action films with ridiculous gadgets gave way to this style of film in the 00s.

The director here is Doug Liman. He also directed Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise, and a great earlier film that you should absolutely watch, Go with Sarah Polley, Timothy Olyphant, Katie Holmes and a great cast. The first thing I saw Chris Cooper in was Lone Star, a great indie film in which he plays the sheriff of a small town in west Texas investigating a 40-year-old murder that may have been committed by his long-dead father, who was Sheriff at the time, and is idolized by the townsfolk. Another recommendation. Limon didn't use "shaky cam" in this movie, but the other Bourne films were directed by Paul Greengrass who did. You almost mentioned 9/11 in the embassy scene. Though this was released in 2002, it was pretty much in the can by the end of the summer in 2001. Producers were concerned at first about how a movie with the CIA as the bad guys would play post-9/11. Before it was released they came back and shot an extra ending scene fin which Brian Cox finds Bourne and makes him an offer to rejoin the CIA (y'know, to be more "patriotic"). In the end they chose to release it as it was originally filmed.

I can hardly wait for the second one. It’s my favorite of the three.

Hamesque

The central mystery of "Who is Jason Bourne?" never really worked for me. It's clearly Matt Damon.

Gonna jump on with everyone else saying to check out RUN LOLA RUN. Franke Potente is spectacular in it, and it's one of the most exciting action movies. And for something more in the vein of this espionage/spycraft, couple on the run genre, North By Northwest is a classic for a reason.

DeAndrew Greene

US Embassy is sovereign US territory. Immunity kicks in as long as you're a US Citizen for the most part so that's where the jurisdiction thing comes in.

Bishey

This is a very smart and well written movie. Probably in my Top 3 favorite spy movies ever. As you said in the review, it's quiet and introspective at times. It has an enjoyable love story and has some nice comedic moments. The action scenes aren't too frequent but they are very intense. The whole movie is gritty and feels lived in. It's very immersive. The camera shake is very tolerable in the first movie but it definitely steps up a notch with the second one. Paul Greengrass takes over as the director and it was his preferred way of shooting action.

In the books, the man pulled from the water tries to piece his life together with the help of a Canadian economist he kidnapped, then rescued. He learns his name, then discovers that Carlos the Jackal, a high-profile assassin for hire, wants him dead. He believes he was probably working for Carlos and betrayed him. Then he is told that he was actually a rival of Carlos, an assassin known as Cain. But it is finally revealed that a man named David Webb, a former soldier, was recruited by the CIA to go under deep cover posing as an assassin for hire in order to lure Carlos out of hiding. Jason Bourne was a man that David Webb had executed during the war when he discovered Bourne had betrayed his fellow soldiers. When the CIA recruits David Webb, he creates the "Bourne Identity," taking on the name Jason Bourne, rescuing people from Carlos, taking credit for Carlos' kills and other high-profile murders, planting evidence, making mocking phone calls to the police, creating the illusion that an assassin called Cain was moving into Carlos' territory. Meanwhile, the CIA thinks that David Webb has turned, decided to become Cain in reality. Treadstone is the name of the operation. And Carlos the Jackal has informants inside.

I second you Bishey. This is definitely in my top three spy movies also. Only thing is, the other two in my top three are Supremacy and Ultimatum.

Robert C

Really hoping you carry on with the next two in the series.

Robert C

My favourite Brian Cox movie is The Flying Scotsman. He appears as a far less "Hollywood" actor and you can really get a sense of his range.

Smellwell

Eh, mediocre movie. But, the people voted for it. I wouldn't recommend watching the sequels.

Starromania72

I agree with other commenters re: checking out Franka Potente in Run Lola Run. For more shady speccy-ops-type thrillers with hair-raising car chases, you should definitely consider Ronin (1988) with Robert de Niro.

Haye Zeus

I also recommend Run Lola Run for more Franka Potente being a late 90’s crush.

Curaitis

The Trilogy is some of the finest Movieaction you can get. Hope you will watch the whole trilogy.

wroot

The ending was really nice indeed. Him being able to track her, she being happy he tracked her. A little joke about ID :)

Philipp Roensch

This was better than I remembered, a bit cheese music picks and choppy edits on the action already. But otherwise filmed competently and a decent thriller. Loved Franka Potente as German love interest, amazing choice. The second is fine as well, but this franchise certainly fell into a formula and then ridiculousness to beat the previously grounded story. As IT nerd it was fun to also see all the 2002 tech back in action, Win98 and all that chabang - lovely.

The grounds of an embassy are officially part of the embassy's home country. So the American embassy in Paris is legally USA territory and the French cannot enter it without an invitation unless they want to literally invade the USA.

Lana Gorgeous

OMG do you guys laugh a lot even on serious scenes. I guess you saw this as a comedy.
