I think it's cool they're going through the motions everyone does on the first watch. "Stringer's so smart, but Avon can't see the forest for the trees." This show really gets better the more times you watch it.

Great discussion at the end. I've always seen Avon as a fascinating character, despite him seeming one dimensional at times. He sees through the deceit of the "legal" route almost immediately, probably more clearly than Stringer. For characters like Avon, the money is almost incidental. It's not what motivates him. It's about making a name for himself, and that mindset is what he grew up around and lived his entire life.

There are lots of intense moments in this series, but I still think Cutty slapping the girl might be the most jarring thing that happens.
