You guys need to watch What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), it's a great early Johnny Depp movie, and also an early Leo DeCaprio film as well!

You two should watch The Shining as well as watch some classic Hitchcock, the father of horror, my recommendations are Psycho and The Birds

"This movie has been in my house" is appropriately creepy :D Some older horror recommendations (in addition to the obligatory Hitchcocks, Kubricks, and Evil Deads): The Exorcist (1973) The Omen (1976) Suspiria (1977) Halloween (1978) Jacob's Ladder (1990) - it's got Tim Robbins in it! (Okay, 1990 isn't old. It really isn't. It's younger than Simone and Simone is young.)

This is my childhood right here :) Freddy is one of my favorite movie characters. I love all the entries in this franchise despite the cheese factor :) Cheers! ---and patiently waiting for The Crow to make it onto a list. ;)

+1 for The Crow 💍🎸

Going silly with Freddy was about the only place you can take a horror movie monster after their reveal. Once your monster is out of the bag they are never as frightening as they used to be, but yea Freddy goes a little to far down the humor path sometimes. I would watch the first 4 movies (3 is my favorite) and maybe the remake just to see you guys compare it to the original.

Freddy vs Jason was really good when you compare it to all the horrible sequels for both franchises and enjoyable fun for fans of both. I think it was a mistake to watch that before this. When did you realise the movies were connected? You didn't mention it before the reaction started, and it seemed you had no idea Freddy was in this.

another reason why the movies went funny in the sequels is they were supposed to be anthology style with a different monster every film but freddy ended up being to popular but they had already revealed him the first film so they knew scary would not really work well anymore and so they were not sure how to handle him being the main villain of the franchise going forward.

also, it goes without saying that the whole ending with the kids int the care and mom through the door sequel bait was not the original ending and was only added after it was decided Freddy would continue to be the villain in the sequel. When freddy vanished in the mom's room after Nancy turned her back on him that WAS supposed to be the end of him based on the original intent for series ( having a different villain every movie ).

You should add "Poltergeist" from 1982 to your list. After this one, it's a piece of cake ;-)

It's possible the entire film was a dream since it ends just as it began with the kids doing the jump rope.
