I never get tired of this movie. Another great Mel Brooks flick is Blazing Saddles. Brooks is a comedy genius.

Mel Brooks really is a genius but you're looking at several of them here. Do check out Blazing Saddles for Mel working with Wilder (and the amazing writing talent of early Richard Pryor) for Mel pushing the limits of film itself. For Wilder check out "Start the Revolution without me" working with Donald Sutherland and "Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother" working again with Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn. For Feldman look into "In God We Trust" (Ref Moni Castaneda for Feldman as a monk) and "The Last Remake of Beau Geste" with Feldman working with Michael York and Anne Margaret. So good to see you guys taking a chance on older films. The hidden good side to that is these older films are often referenced in newer things especially Mel Brooks. Great Reaction thank you again.

When considering Mel Brooks films, the original version of The Producers should never be left out. I'd argue that the Broadway musical version might be better, but the movie version of the musical is the worst. I'd put Blazing Saddles, The Producers, History of the World Part 1, and Young Frankenstein as his best. For Madeline Kahn, I have a soft spot in my heart for Clue. Her improv of the "flames on the side of my face" scene is classic. Funny story about Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles: YF wouldn't have happened if not for BS. Brooks originally cast an older actor for the part of The Waco Kid. The actor was a known serious alcoholic, but Brooks and others thought that might give the part a little extra authenticity. Well, on the first day of filming(the scene in the jail cell between Bart and Jim), the original actor collapsed and went into full delirium tremens from alcohol withdrawal. Brooks quickly got on the phone to Wilder to beg him to fly from NY to LA to take the role(they were friends and had discussed the movie before - Brooks had talked to Wilder about the role earlier, but Wilder thought he was too young to do the part justice). Wilder had wanted Brooks to direct YF, but he had turned it down a few times. In return for Wilder agreeing to star in BS, Brooks agreed to direct YF.

David Martin and Marko T.: Although I own the Frankenstein collection on DVD, I don’t think I’ve even watched “Son of…”! I know I haven’t watched past that. I think I just assumed that, like most series, they deteriorated as they went along. (I don’t know why I think that about the Frankenstein franchise, though, when I do believe that “Bride of…” is a much better film than the creaky original.)

They get worse after Son of Frankenstein but I still recommend all the sequels. Son is the last great one. It was also the last movie with Boris Karloff as the monster.

Madeline Kahn dodging the air kiss is still my favorite bit 😂

Young Blood Priest

Lol. Yep. Kahn dodged that kiss like it was a wrench from Patches O’Houlihan.

Peter Boyle (the creature) you may recognize from his role as Raymond's dad on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Many years ago, I saw Madeline Kahn in a New York music shop. She seemed approachable, so I approached and told her I really loved her work. She seemed to genuinely appreciate the compliment, even though she'd certainly heard it a million times before. We talked briefly. She was very warm and down-to-earth. I instantly liked her and felt at ease. Nice lady.
