I've seen the original film series from the seventies, and when I first saw this film I was expecting a cheap re-tread of an established IP. I was completely blown away by this film. It was smart, moving, heart breaking, thrilling.

This new trilogy is great and a more than worthy follow-up to the original movies. Hopefully you guys will watch some of the original ones. (Please skip the Tim Burton /Mark Wahlberg one🤦🏾‍♂️).

Also the Icarus Space mission being lost is a reference to the original Planet of Apes movie. There’s a few references in the series that are really cool😊

Ah bummer. I only read Planet of the Apes and thought you were reacting to the original with Charlton Heston.

Caesar wouldn't need to travel all over the world to spread the drug. He inherited the mutation from his mother, so the apes already affected would spread the "intelligence gene" over generations as long as there are no humans around to stop it from happening

lol just got done watching whole series last week - here I go again with you both lol

The story is somewhat version of the russian revolution. Koba was actually a nickname that Stalin used

A lot of years ago I was at a zoo in Memphis, Tennessee, in one of the old-fashioned, cement and glass monkey houses. I was standing at an enclosure and there was one very young ape just sitting in the corner against the glass, looking out kind of at nothing and just bored. Just then, a little boy about 4 years old, right about the same size as the ape walked up and the young ape saw him and his whole face lit up. He jumped up and stood in front of the boy, then went and grabbed his ball and followed the little boy along the glass as the family walked past the enclosure, carrying his ball with him the whole way. Then, the little boy and his family kept walking and the young ape just stood there and watched them leave, then just sat down and leaned against the glass and looked so sad. I've never fucking forgotten that. We don't deserve this planet after all we've done to them and all the other animals, but especially the ones we share the most DNA with. Humans suck.

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, it was which is why I still remember it all these years later.

I mean, some people are amazing - like George & Simone! - but there's no denying human atrocities across all species, mostly in pursuit of money and/or power.

For what it's worth, I really liked this movie, but I LOVED the sequels so much more. It gets crazy good, and takes some really unexpected turns. When I saw it in theaters, it was the first movie in a long time I had seen where I didn't just constantly know where the plot was going, because a lot of movies repeat stories that have already been done, same story different flavor.....this trilogy is a very rare gem that actually feels completely fresh, unique, and new, despite literally being sort of a reboot. I think it's actually one of the best series of movies to come out in the last 10 or 20 years.
