Did anyone notice when Sarris is shooting everyone on the command deck the ONLY person he DOESN'T HIT, and supposedly kill, is Guy?

Although there is no Galaxy Quest TV show, there is a TV show called The Orville which follows in the spirit of Galaxy Quest made my Seth MacFarlane which I think you two should watch.

To answer a few of questions/observations that have come up so far... 1) The relationships between the cast members are pretty closely modelling that of the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series. Shatner was, at the time and for some years after, a major egotist. He alienated most or all of his castmates as a result. Most famously, Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and George Takei (Sulu) were really opposed to him personally. Shatner and Nimoy eventually reconciled but Takei is still not onboard. Look up Shatner and the word "sabotage" if you want an example. 2. This is primarily a Star Trek...parody? It's really too affectionate for that or a spoof, I think, but it's the closest label I can think of at the moment. I've heard it lauded as one of the best Star Trek movies because of both how well it plays with the tropes of those shows/films but also because of how ultimately respectful it is of them. The fact that this alien species, the Thermians, have taken this silly, sweethearted, socialist utopia as gospel and it has saved their civilization is the ultimate paean to the Star Trek franchise. 3. Tony Shalhoub, I think, was a late hire/replacement for the character of Fred Chen. I'm assuming, based on the surname and on Shalhoub's acting choices, that Fred was a California surfer-dude type who was meant to be of Chinese decent. Then he got the script and just decided to run with the "always really high" part of the character. He's clearly coded as being cataclysmically high throughout the movie. He runs with it, though. 4. The actor playing the lead Thermian came up with the alien vocalizations and physical movements for the species and is credited with single-handedly elevating the movie by informing the character of that entire species/extras.

HIGHLY recommend watching the deleted scenes for this!

George: "Is this a spoof?" Simone: "No, I don't think so." I agree, I think of it as a hilarious homage to Star Trek, and the fandom. Also, my opinion, Next Generation is the best, the Borg still haunt me lol I remember watching the show as a kid, and there being some of our parents all jazzed about it too because they watched the OG Star Trek when they were kids, well that's what they said anyway, pretty sure they watched the re-runs as stoned teenagers, same as we did 😆

I'm pretty sure this is mostly based on TOS, or at least, it's based on how those actors at this point were known for basically nothing else. There are definitely things taken from other pieces of Trek though, like Tommy being a kid when the show was on reminds me of a character like Wesley Crusher from TNG.

The outro was brilliant. Simone nailed the voice :D

I have watched TOS and liked it. Watched TNG and loved it. DS9 i got stuck in first season. I don't feel it. At some point will go through it as i am curious about the other series and want to keep in the order of release. Of course, also watched the movies up until that :)

This movie is such a blast from the past! I really like this movie. It's a very sweet movie that's also pretty darn nerdy and not too over the top. TNG is the best but it's also pretty darn old school. I fell in love with Voyager as a kid. The show's super exciting if you can put yourself into their positions/imagine that you're stuck incredibly far from anything/everyone that you've ever known. If you can imagine that, then you can enjoy the show. It has the same Star Trek tropes.. loads of alien races that they encounter on their journey home. Plenty of drama, both normal and steamy. It's a solid Star Trek series! I recommend that you give it a shot. :)

Good choice, NOT to watch Picard... but you should finish DS9, Simone. To what point did you watch?

Oh, so diving into the Dominion Conflict heads on. Did you like the double episode "Homefront" / "Paradise Lost"? I think that seasons 4 to 6 are the best of DS9. Have fun :-)
