So, the thing with the gum was about General Turgidson being very sexually frustrated the entire movie. Remember that he and his secretary were having some grownup fun times before that phone call came in and interrupted everything.

Hello Simone and George, It's really nice that you watched an old movie and I hope you will watch more of them. There are so many good old time movies and I really want to recommend some of them for you: - Some like it hot (1959) - Operation Petticoat (1959) - We're No Angels (1955) - The Sting (1973) - Irma la Douce (1963) - Victor/Victoria (1983) Also some more serious older movies: - 12 Angry men (1957) - The Great Escape (1963) - In the Heat of the Night (1967) - Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - All the President’s Men (1976) - The African Queen (1951) ... and there are hundreds more of very good movies, even from other genres which I didn't mention, like western, historical dramas, heist movies or noir movies etc. Many of them (and all of the ones I recommend 😁) are of course without CGI and the modern possibilities of filming, but with very good actors, directors and a nice story. 😊

If you are leaning into political dramas, I would add "Advise and Consent" to it. Def a product of post- McCarthy Hollywood.

Speaking of the music and the refueling, here's a classic moment from an old MST3K episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tm1ciFq5d4

"Oh the humanity!" Kubrick, even as young as he was was brilliant. Also, Peter Sellers was a fuckin comic genius. And is this where the first iteration of the fluoridization conspiracy theory came from?

There are thousands of great movies from the “era” you’re pulling from, but (regrettably) none of the films you listed come from the only genre that actually matters: Horror. I would *love* to see ANYONE, (but especially Simone & George), react to the film to top all films, the 1921 masterpiece, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.” Now THAT would be something truly special :D

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooooo happy yaw saw this movie

Loved this reaction. I did find it a bit surprising that you didn't seem to notice Peter Sellers playing three different parts in the movie but I'm a fan of his so perhaps it was just easier for me to do so. Please add some more older movies as you can. There are so many great ones that you'd both enjoy. I'd love to see you react to - The Sting Close Encounters of the Third Kind Blazing Saddles Young Frankenstein North by Northwest Planet of the Apes (1968) Dirty Harry Rocky Smokey and the Bandit

This is one of my all time favorite films; it was great fun watching it again with you. What we call McCarthyism actually started with the House Unamerican Activities Commission (HUAC) in the 40’s, years before McCarthy, and damaged many more lives than McCarthy did. There is a good movie that portrays how the Hollywood blacklist, a product of McCarthyism (which itself was a product of the Cold War), affected and destroyed lives. It’s called “The Front” and stars Woody Allen. He’s just plays the lead role, he didn’t write or direct it. I highly recommend it.

The film's reality and unreality combine to form what it felt like living through the era. The film is perfection in my opinion.
