The scene where the crowd didn't cheer was a blooper worth looking up.

A couple of people here in the comments had already mentioned that Paul Bettany's character Geoffrey Chaucer is loosely based on the English author of the same name who wrote The Canterbury Tales; they even added that one of the characters in that work was "The Knight", of whom Chaucer (both the narrator and a character in the story) spoke very favorably. In this amazingly fun and funny movie (which I've loved and watched repeatedly since the day the DVD was released), Chaucer's gambling addiction causes him to run afoul of Peter the Pardoner and Simon the Summoner, who've detained him for his debt. When William/Ulrich (The Knight) settles Chaucer's debt, Chaucer states his intention to exact revenge on the pair, telling them "I will eviscerate you in fiction. Every last pimple, every last character flaw…I was naked for a day. You will be naked for eternity". Amongst the couple dozen pilgrim characters in The Canterbury Tales, there is the Pardoner and the Summoner; one is described as greasy, fraudulent and peddling false religious artifacts, and the other a drunken, leprous, incompetent lech. I LOVE the attention to detail and the implication that these "real" people inspired those characters! This is one of those few movies that, no matter the circumstance, I will ALWAYS stop and watch to the end if it's on!

“What are you doing?!?” “Losing.” “I don’t understand.” “Neither do I.” I love that exchange 😂

What Simone likely heard was Aragon, which was a kingdom in what is now Spain. For example, Henry the VIII first wife was Catherine of Aragon.
