Today our Patreon turns 1! I just can't believe it.

It was May 15, 2021 when I put out the first post into the void of the Internet, unsure if anybody would be interested, and since then the ride has been so wild and breathtaking that it feels both like an age and just moments ago O_O

Some numbers for the growth of our virtual baby:

  • 7 open-world modded games, not including GTA V and NOLF2 which are freely available on GitHub;
  • 67 posts;
  • 3,281 private messages, or about 9 per day;
  • 7,049 post comments, or about 19 per day;
  • 2,685 active Patrons as of today;
  • number 40 in the top 50 chart for the Patreon "Games" category.

I'm so grateful, and humbled, and happy about what we're building together! Amidst the continuing indifference of AAA studios and publishers, let's keep the VR flame alight []-D

But the game I'd like more than any other get the AER treatment is Star Citizen. You think that is even possible or feasible?

D S

I thought star citizen was going to be VR ...

Anonymous

I wouldn't count on it, a mod is more likely IMO

Anonymous

Isnt it online only and cheat protected? Id say 0% but nothings impossible so 0.00000001%

LowRider

Has someone manged to use the OpenXR Toolkit in conjunction with the R.E.A.L Mod? This would be interesting, since it offers fixed (and dynamic) foveated rendering (better performance).

Anonymous

LowRider i tried, foveated rendering doesnt work with any moded game, fsr or nis on the other hand works tho in gta v at least is where i use it

Cercata

So, what's the next surprise ? Just asking for curiosity, I have yet to start Elden Ring ;)

Lee

Hey Luke, is there a chance that you would be able to make a VR mod for NASCAR Heat 5?

Anonymous

Hi luke, I would really like a survival horror type outlast or visage. Thank you

Cercata

Outlast was awesome, maybe the only horror game I played before VR ... I think it would work extremly well with a VR mod.

Derrick taylor

Hey Luke I have stopped playing Elden Ring because it crashes too much in VR. I had contacted you on using your file to record the crashes but I haven't heard back. I really don't want the file to mess up my computer as you have warned. But, I am interested in using it if it can help with these annoying crashes

realvr

Hey Derrick, I just looked through my messages but I couldn't find anything recent from you. What was the question?

Derrick taylor

I'm interested in using the file to find the trouble with the crashes but I am concerned that it will be harmful to the computer right?

realvr

The .reg file attached to https://www.patreon.com/posts/66159572 (description in A1) is not harmful in any way. It will only add a registry key that instructs Windows to generate a maximum of 5 minidumps in case Elden Ring crashes. That said, if you don't feel confident making any changes to the Windows registry by yourself, you might want to ask a friend who's knowledgeable with computers to assist you

Cercata

Squadron 42, the single player part of Star Citizen

Derrick taylor

I am running the file that you have developed. I know that I can't use any overlays or other mods with it. Put I can't enjoy the game without the Wemod overlay. Can I use the file we the WeMod overlay ? Otherwise I cannot play the game

realvr

I have no idea. I didn't know about the WeMod overlay before now, and nobody here on the Patreon has ever mentioned it. However, my mod already comes with Alexander's Blade trainer included, which ought to be enough in case WeMod should not work

Derrick taylor

Now what do I do when the game crashes? Do I send the file to you as an attachment? Or does it automatic send the information to you on why it crashes.

realvr

It's not automatic. Once you have added the key into the Windows registry, the next time Elden Ring crashes it should generate a minidump into the folder "%AppData%\EldenRing\CrashDumps". You can upload the minidump anywhere and give me the link

Hi Luke. Been loving the Elden Ring mod and thought i'd try my hand at the RDR2. I just play on MONO because I prefer the fluidity over 3d depth. One problem with the RDR2 mod though is I can't seem to open up the menu with controller like I can in Elden Ring. I know the input is different (Both triggers vs start+select) but it doesn't seem to do anything and I have to use the keyboard. Any thoughts on how to get it working? Also the resolution scaling override in the menu (5/2 for example)-- is that reflected in the game menu as well or is it independent of it?

realvr

The double trigger gesture only works when you're in the game menus, to avoid interfering with gameplay. The Resolution Scale override controls the same setting as the one in the game menu, it's only needed because the game is buggy since DLSS was introduced and it always forgets the RS setting

Anonymous

Ah I see. Thanks for answering-- I'm guessing that resolution override doesn't apply if I'm using DLSS then? Also what does enable OBS mode do? I happen to use OBS to record my VR gameplay and I usually use the SteamVR window and record that in it's widescreen format.

realvr

DLSS and its quirks are explained here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/54090413

realvr

For my OBS virtual source see the "Additional notes for YouTubers and streamers" in https://www.patreon.com/posts/60054014

Great that is really helpful. double trigger unfortunately still doesn't work even in menus for me. Using a PS5 controller if that makes a difference but all the inputs are the same. Oh well not a big deal. Last question: the VR menu will sometimes get attached to my headset and move around with my head. I can't get it back to its default floating setting. I can make it float for 5 seconds thanks to that keyboard shortcut but I can't find the setting to put it back to default. Also can't find the setting to have default aiming instead of head. (I'm just playing 3rd person in mono)

This is what I do and the crashes stop for me. Everytime I would warp to a location the game just force closed and crashed. I'm playing on a quest 2 with 2160x2160 as my setting. So here is what I do and it no longer crashes. As soon as the game starts up in the vr mod I immediately go to settings and switch the resolution to 1920 and save the setting and then change the setting back to 2160. When I do this the game no longer crashes. I have no idea why changing the resolution at the beginning fixes my crashes but it does. If you don't believe me I literally can show you a video with me booting the game up and if I don't switch the resolution at the beginning as soon as I warp somewhere it crashes but when I change the resolution at the beginning I can play hours and not see a crash. I hope this helps somebody.

realvr

The HUD becomes headlocked when you're in combat, to allow you to access all important information at a glance even if the battle makes you turn your head around. All my mods use gaze-based aiming. There is no settings change to enable mouse- or stick-based aiming, because the games I mod expect the crosshair to always be in the center of your view and it's the camera that moves: however, in VR it would make no sense to tilt your view up and down using the mouse or thumbstick. The vertical movement must be driven by your head, otherwise you would get sick and the experience would not be realistic. Just give it a few minutes. You'll see that gaze-based aiming very quickly becomes second-nature, and when it does everybody finds it much more precise and intuitive than moving a tiny lever!

realvr

Thank you for your report, Nabi! I also have no idea why that would be beneficial, but if it works for you it will probably work for other users too. If somebody else can confirm I will put it in the troubleshooting post as a suggestion

Derrick taylor

where do I send the app data crash dump files? Do you have an email address to send them? I don't know how to make a link of the files. Because it still crashes with the change in resolution hack that Nabi suggested.

Derrick taylor

Hey Nabi, does it changes back into 2160 automatically after saving it to 1920??

Hello Luke, would you be interested in making a mod for Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown. There's quite a huge community of fans that has been waiting forever for Namco to include VR in its game but they only did so for Playstation on a couple of missions. Your would make the dream of many people come true if you find the time. Thanks for all you've done on RDR2 and Cyberpunk!

realvr

Wow, that game looks awesome! Although I'm not much into flight sim/combat games myself... I'll tell you It's pretty unlikely that I'll be doing it, so let's hope that some other modder comes to the rescue!

realvr

Just upload them anywhere like on Mega or Drive and put the link here or if you prefer send me a DM with the link

Anonymous

Thanks for having a look at it anyway. Yep there's hoping someday... Oddly enough some small developer studio made of fans of the Ace Combat franchise released a game that is fully VR compatible (Project Wingman) so it goes to show that it's feasible even by a small studio. It's really a shame the industry still considers VR as a niche market. Anyway thanks for the good work and your nice reply!

Derrick taylor

I haven't done that before. Can I just send an attachment? I don't have Mega or Drive

Derrick taylor

Here you go Luke. The link to the crash dump files.https://mega.nz/folder/qHJVEBhI#DLgYPrlfJwbJXpkWLpn7Yw

Toshie27

Hello, I was in the hospital for a long time and it no longer works GTA 5 No red dead no mafia. Can someone tell me which version still works?

realvr

Hey Toshie27, I'm very sorry to hear that! What happened to you? The current version of the mod is 4.2.0 and everything should be working again

Toshie27

Thank you Luke, I was in a motorcycle accident but on the mend

realvr

Hi Derrick. The crashes appear to be caused by the WeMod trainer. Could you try removing it (just disabling it for the game might not be enough) and report back whether that solves the issue for you?

realvr

That's awful, and scary! It must have been really bad, for you to have to spend a long time in the hospital... I wish you a full recovery, my virtual friend

Derrick taylor

How do I use your trainer on your mod? what is it called in your ?mod menu? sometimes it crashes without the mod as well. I thought that it was recorded in the files.

realvr

Please refer to the README for instructions on how to use the embedded trainer (attached here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/66014070)

Derrick taylor

Hey Luke, the game still crashes without the WeMod overlay. Here is the link with the new crashdump 2 file https://mega.nz/megadrop/fUaQwNLiDaU

Derrick taylor

Try this link. I had to remake the link. https://mega.nz/megadrop/KxURGJ88C9Q

No it doesn't automatically change it back to 2160 I have to change it back. I just tried again with the new 4.2.0 and it still does it. If I don't change the resolution to something else when the game and vr mod loads as soon as I warp somewhere it force closes the game. But as soon as the game loads to my most recent save after hitting continue on the main screen I go to settings and change it to 1920 and then save and then change it back to 2160 and save then continue playing without any crash after warping. Also sometimes the game loads with real bad flickering and I just repeat the same process and the flickering is gone.

Derrick taylor

so you have to do this every time you get into the game. settings 1920 save, 2160 save, then play the game.

Anonymous

Yes. But I don't mind doing it as long as it fixes the crashes. At least it fixes the crashes because I was literally about to give up on the mod until I stumbled on doing this to fix it.

Anonymous

Star Citizen mod please <3

Derrick taylor

Thank you very much for your information on how to do this. I was able to finish the game without any crashes. Again, thank you.

drowhunter

I would bet gold, that with Spider-Man being announced for PC. We will be getting a REAL mod of it.
