This release fixes a problem reported by several users, where if you hand-edited your system.xml file to select a base window resolution larger than the default set by the mod (1080x1080), aiming could stop working correctly, i.e., the crosshair might be misaligned and/or look double due to it being drawn at the wrong position and depth.

Since some of you were having trouble activating the mod overlay by pressing both triggers on the gamepad, I also tweaked the gesture sensitivity so that now it's enough to squeeze the triggers 3/4 of the way in. This should compensate for defective or older gamepads where one or both triggers never register as 100% pressed.

CHANGELOG

v1.0.2:

  • fixed aiming (crosshair position and depth) for base window resolutions larger than 1080x1080
  • increased the detection sensitivity for the "squeeze both triggers" gamepad gesture

v1.0.1:

  • fixed a bug that could make the mod unusable for Patrons with an AMD graphics card
  • optimized GPU usage (on most systems this should bring increased fps, more stable VR view, more fluid capture for video streaming, etc.)
  • increased resolution scaling for the Very high preset from 3:2 to 2:1

v1.0.0:

  • initial release

Thank you so much ! I’ve been loving your mod this past week . Absolutely amazing work , keep it up !

Anonymous

Yeah this mod stellar, thanks for sharing.

I haven't tried whether v1.0.2 addresses this, but is anyone else having a camera issue when the binocular or bow is drawn, and when walking forward, the camera/point of view randomly rotates, as if tracking something, or doing a sudden 180 or 360 degrees turn on its own? Holding a rifle or gun doesn't do this.

Scott Carson

Yes - I have this exact thing. I thought it was my controller being weird. I’m using an Xbox Elite Controller if that makes any difference.

i can't access vr in the game....i read over your PDF like 3 times and followed your instructions step by step...the pause/break button on the keyboard nor does the left and right trigger on a gamepad during the menu screen work....i even bought the steam version of the game because i thought maybe there were issues with the Rockstar version.

Anonymous

V1.0.2 has fixed the targeting issue I was having in resolutions above 1080. Luke, thank you so much for the quick turnaround! This game looks absolutely amazing in VR! This and your GTA V mod are the best VR experiences hands down.

Thanks for the terrific mod and excellent updates.

Hi all. Using SteamVR with HP Reverb G2 and Windows but can't get the shake head to center view to work. Also have a 3090 and on Ultra and seems to be shaky when turning head. Not real smooth. Any ideas on both 1. Centrr and 2. Shaky experience?

Anonymous

So.. I have tried High, Medium and it may just be it is what it is. It's like the image is lagging slightly compared to native VR im used to with the G2. So in medium it still does it and in fpsVR the card is not maxing out at 100% at all.

WIG

excited to try. I am happy for higher res. Much rather the high res and lower some other settings. cheers

Even with the latest version of the mod, I’m still getting crashes around Valentine too frequently to have any real fun with the game. Suddenly my game world will freeze, usually within minutes of starting my session, and that t usually seems to coincide with passing other riders or coaches. Not sure if it’s the mod specifically or just RDR2 on the PC being buggy by its nature. I may try playing some flat to try to determine that.

Hey Luke I sent all last night and today trying to get Red Dead to play on my Mac with Bootcamp. I have used other vr apps like oculus medium and doodle earth vr. hey ll say the graphic card is not at the minimum but they still play well. I was really dying to play this game in vr but I dont know if I can even get the darn thing play at all. I have enough memory and my graphics card is as good a radeon pro Vega 64 16gb... but dang it if the app stay it won't initialize and I need to reinstall drivers after I bought it on steam. If anyone know can give me a solid lead I would be grateful on how to get this running. This was supposed to be an early b-day gift for me and its turned into a big headache. Thanks folks.

Even with the 1.02 I can't get the pause menu / squeeze both triggers method to bring up the game overlay. It isn't a critical issue for me as the workaround to switch to the airlink desktop and use the virtual keyboard to hit pause works, just sharing in case it provides clues of others have similar issues. I have multiple controllers, is it possible that is a contributing factor? I have a T.Flight HOTAS One joystick. I tried unplugging the joystick and restarting the game, but that in itself wasn't enough. If it is some sort of controller enumeration thing I'm not sure if restarting the computer without the wired HOTAS plugged in would be enough to get my bluetooth xbox one controller working with the overlay or not. I've also in the past had a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision joystick and a MS Sidewinder force feedback 2 plugged in, but neither of those have been used for a week or two (but I mention them in case some remnants or enumerated usb controller something or other could be coming into play). Let me know if you'd like me to try anything, otherwise I'll probably just keep using the virtual keyboard to hit pause...

Andre Warringa

Not that this helps, but 24 hours in and haven't had a single crash so far. But if you google 'red dead redemption 2 valentine crash' it's not the mod, apparently lots of people have this issue with the 2d version.

realvr

I'm sorry but playing on a Mac with Bootcamp is not a supported configuration. You might be able to make it work, but I cannot guarantee it or even test it, and even if you can get it to run there could be issues that I won't be able to solve.

realvr

Interesting observation about you having multiple controllers. It might be tied to your issue, even though I just take the gamepad input without any filter on the controller number. Once you activate the overlay using the virtual keyboard, are you then able to use your gamepad to navigate the overlay? Or is the mod completely deaf to your gamepad inputs, even after the overlay has been activated?

Cercata

I still don't get the overlay with the triggers, maybe it was not a pressure issue, but my model, I'm ussing an xbox360 usb gamepad. I have an HOTAS and a wheel, but both are un plugged, the only controller plugged to the USB was that one.

realvr

Weird. Same question to you: once you activate the overlay using Pause/Break, are you then able to use your gamepad to navigate the overlay? Or is the mod completely deaf to your gamepad inputs, even after the overlay has been activated?

MonkeySpaceWalk

I'm about 11% through the game and it has been a great experience so far. But now (before and after this update) for whatever reason, I cannot leave valentine without the game crashing by completely freezing. Any ideas on how to get past this?

Anonymous

Would there be a possibility to add a way to slightly adjust the camera height (the head feels often too close to the shoulders)

realvr

It's quite easy: just slump down a bit before you recenter. When you assume your normal position again, you will raise the camera together with your head :-) A variation of the same trick works for instance when you have to browse shop catalogues, which the game likes to put a little too close for comfort: you just move forward some before you recenter, so when you move back to your normal position the book will be at the proper distance

realvr

The game does tend to crash a lot around Valentine for me too, even in 2D. I've just learnt to save a lot when I'm traveling to and from Valentine :-) Luckily it gets much better in other areas of the map, Valentine just seems to be particularly buggy.

Hey Luke - So, when I switch the rendering to Mono, the stick turning is SO much more smooth. However, the the aim reticle doesn't really work. What is happening when I switch to mono? I assume I am loosing 3D effects, but it only seems to effect objects close to me. Any way to have the smoothness of Mono, but the 3D effects and Aiming Reticle of Stereo?

Anonymous

Luke, thank you so much for your hard work getting this all together, I was very happy to give you $10 for it, as you've already given me 100hrs+ of glorious GTAVR. You are a prince and a gentlemen.

Anonymous

The mod is running perfectly for me but there is one small issue. I wonder if anybody has been seeing and experience this. Things like NPCs, foliage, my horse etc. have a weird edge effect going on. There's a strange sort of fuzziness/pixelation happening around the edges of these objects. I've been playing with various settings but have so far had no luck in getting them to go away or look better.

Anonymous

Turning off soft shadows helps a little. But what you are seeing is pretty much tied to the TAA. You really have two options... Turn off TAA and use MSAA and deal with lots of artifacts or... Keep upping the resolution and the effect will be less apparent I wish the MSAA worked a little better because you can see forever with that on. Or some type of CAS(Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) shader implementation would help TAA quite a bit

Anonymous

Thank you Clint. Yeah I've been playing with different mixes of super sampling and resolutions and it does seem a little better, just need to find a nice balance I guess. Thank you for the response!

Hi guys. Nvidia announced dlss for red dead redemption. Great news 😎 Ok they said « soon », and it means nothing, but it’s cool https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/computex-2021-rtx-dlss-game-announcements/?ncid=afm-chs-44270&ranMID=44270&ranEAID=TnL5HPStwNw&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-Hi1ufTsmgfsiz4dDFDKLKQ

Emile Tixeuil

For me the reticule doesn’t work when i start the game in mono. I have to turn up the overlay, play the game again With the overlay and activate then desactivate stéréo. Don’t know why but after that, the reticule works again in mono. (Not perfect perfect but works) I play in mono only, find it way better. I can’t stand the glitch when the camera is turning.

The Merote

Here's my Quest 2 Setting's update, it looks amazing on the Quest 2. after playing for a while and especially the story I felt I had to drop some of the settings for a soother experience but it still runs and looks super smooth, https://www.patreon.com/user?u=10057987

Cercata

Will that mean game update that will break the mod for some days until a new ScriptHook is released ? Or will it be just with new NVIDIA drivers, that will use DLSS intead of the TAA as NVIDIA anounced 1 year ago ?

Shakey Jake

Hey the mod works great, but i have to use mono rendering in order to stop a flickering of double vision, once in mono though, the hud moves wit my head lol. has anyone else experienced this?

Anonymous

Hi, thanks for the mod, I´m like a kid with new shoes. I´m playing with quest 2 but I also have a pimax 8k+ with larger fov (150º). The mod is working in this headset but the textures are a mess. I´ve tried turning off TAA and this problem disappear but then you are without AA and If you use the msaa, the frames drop and it´s unplayable (I play on ultra because if you low to high or under ,is like a vhs tape). Any tip for this problem? Is it happening in other headsets?(index for example which has more fov than normal headsets?) Thanks

Cercata

Are you sure it's because of mono ? or it can be bacause you unholstered a weapon ?

realvr

Unfortunately I cannot support Pimax headsets. They might work, but as you said there might be issues, especially with larger FOV. What do you mean by "the textures are a mess"?

Anonymous

When you are moving your head, the textures "follow" you for a moment . It is a pity because the game with the big fov is glorious. Maybe with nvidia dlss we can gain more fps and we could use msaa x4 or x8 because it is very clear with the pimax but the performance is not good

Anonymous

I tried out Pimax 5K, 150 degrees FOV, ultra settings. I didn't notice any texture issues on mine. Still some blurriness around moving objects that occurs on my other headset. Specific issues I experienced included a visible shadowed box around the reticule at all times and, at least to me, the world seemed stretched/in a bubble or "off" when compared to my Quest 2, potentially due to the wider FOV, but it's hard to describe.

Anonymous

Is there any one who can point me to a Quest 2 setup guide? It's running terribly, and the headset is jittering around without my moving. I'm on a 2080ti with an i7 4770k and 16G ram. I put the game on all low settings and it still ran like crap. Any ideas? Cheers.

realvr

Hi Ryan, sorry to hear that it "ran like crap" for you. First of all, since you're commenting on an old post, make sure to update to 1.1.0. The setup guide is right there below the mod download link, it's called README. If you still have trouble after following all the steps, there is also a Troubleshooting post
