RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 VR Gameplay / First Impressions & Thoughts // Red Dead Redemption 2 VR Mod

Two days ago Luke Ross dropped the brand new Red Dead Redemption 2 VR mod & I've been tinkering with it & testing it out ever since, today I'm checking out a full mission of Red Dead Redemption 2 VR gameplay with my Oculus Rift S & discussing my initial thoughts about this mod. Many people have asked questions on my original video (original Quest 2 gameplay test can be found below) and I wanted to try and answer as many of these questions as possible at the beginning of todays video. - Is it better than Vorpx? - Whats the framerate? - Whats the 3D like? - Can you turn off alternate eye rendering? - Whats the performance like? I touch on all of the above in this video, I'm sure many people will still have questions and I'll continue to try and answer any that are left in the comments down below but I will say this now... If you're thinking about supporting Luke on Patreon to gain access to the Red Dead Redemption VR mod early then be prepared to spend some time playing around with it to find the settings and setup that works best for YOU. Much like Vorpx this requires patience, after much testing over the last couple of days I have settled on what works for me & my PC, the mod is very impressive but unlike a native VR game you may need to invest some time to get this working to a standard you enjoy. ** Original Quest 2 Red Dead Redemption 2 VR gameplay test video ** https://youtu.be/kTNot9jjEao The Red Dead Redemption 2 VR mod is here, a brand new Luke Ross VR mod dropped into early access this afternoon & my dream of being able to permanently disappearing into Rockstars incredible wild west epic is now one step closer to becoming a reality. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 VR is a surreal experience that feels like it shouldn't be possible, even in this first draft of the VR mod (expect updates, changes and tweaks to come over the following weeks, months & maybe even years) it feels like something very impressive indeed. The size & scale of the world feels more overwhelming than ever & engaging in high octane shoot-outs has never been more invigorating. This is RDR2 VR, the first steps into the Red Dead Redemption 2 VR gameplay experience we've all been waiting for... First things first, how do you get your grubby little mitts on the RDR2 VR mod? Well currently the mod is in early access & can only obtained via Luke Ross' Patreon, once you've pledged for a month you'll gain access to this early access build & can start playing Red Dead Redemption 2 VR straight away - https://www.patreon.com/realvr/posts - A public build may follow in the future so if you'd prefer to wait for a more stable version I'm sure I'll be uploading plenty of content from the early access builds in the meantime. If you've had any experience with the GTA V VR mod (the GTA V Real mod) then you'll probably have a rough idea of what to expect here from the RDR 2 VR mod. This isn't Vorpx, this is a full true 3D rendered version of Red Dead Redemption 2 that can be explored completely within a virtual reality environment. This initial test was carried out with an Oculus Quest 2 (an Oculus Quest 2 link cable setup to be specific) and the game was installed to run on the "high" settings. If you have an especially fancy PC then you can attempt "very high" or "ultra" but I thought I'd play it safe for my first test. The results were VERY impressive, the game ran smoothly & felt great in the headset with the only real draw back being some noticable softness to the traditionally crisp & defined visuals. I imagine the blurring/softening of the visuals is a direct result of getting the game to run well in VR & if you can run the game on higher settings this will no doubt become less & less noticable. The bottom line here is Red Dead Redemption 2 VR took one step closer to reality today, Luke Ross has once again pushed the boundaries of modding & begun creating a product that triple A developers are failing to give VR consumers right now... I can't wait to live inside RDR2 VR & embark on many whacky cowboy adventures, stay tuned for more... - Red Dead Redemption 2 VR - Red Dead Redemption 2 VR Mod - Red Dead Redemption 2 VR Gamplay - Red Dead Redemption 2 VR Oculus Quest - Red Dead Redemption 2 Luke Ross VR Mod - Red Dead VR Mod - RDR2 VR Mod - RDR2 VR Gameplay - Will it VR - Red Dead Redemption 2 VR PC - Oculus Quest 2 #Quest2 #RDR2 #VRGameplay Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 01:54 - Gameplay impressions & answering viewer questions 09:42 - Train robbery gameplay 23:39 - Final thoughts for now 26:33 - Messing about with lassos...

I just posted this comment under that video, wondering if others tried this too so we can help eachother finding the best Ultra resolution setting while maintaining a reasonable fps :) What worked best for me (G2 Reverb, I9 9900, 2080 Super) was to select the Ultra graphics and then turn down graphical options until I was back at 70-75fps. The resolution difference between Ultra and Very High setting is big, Very High is still quite blurry in the distance. With Ultra everything is very sharp. I gladly sacrificed some graphical options over the higher resolution. Amazing mod.

You can also select another profile, then just change the "resolution scale" from x1.5 to x2.0 or x2.5. Game restart is requited after that.

Any one tried this sharpening mod on either GTA or red dead vr mod? https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/njlwtx/have_you_tried_cas_contrast_adaptive_sharpener/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

WIG

That.ight be because it is dx12 or Vulcan. It might need the normal reshade first selecting dx12 then add the other files on top!! I will test later

WIG

I think you can also rename the dxgi.dll but I need to check what the default should be for RDR2

Guys, don't waste your time with ReShade, it won't work. ReShade modifies the backbuffer, so only the image that appears on your monitor will be affected. What you see in the headset won't change at all, apart from the fps hit. I might add support for ReShade presets in the future, and have them applied to the correct point (the eye textures and not the backbuffer), but it's quite a low priority for the moment

The newer VR fork of Reshade applies it to the eye textures and not the backbuffer, that's what they're referring to. The hold up is just that the build that they're trying is missing the Vulkan enabler (though I have no idea if that would still work or not)

That Reshade's c.a.s sharpener is doing wonders in Skyrim VR. Really, that's night and day compared to other AA techniques. I hope it will be adapted to work with R.E.A.L RDR2VR as soon as possible. Clarity matters.
