I cursed at myself and swore, this little thing would be written before year's end. I would not let another winter pass with Longwinter hanging over me. I would not rest until it was done.

It's 1:30 a.m. now and in a dozen hours I head off on my vacation.

But Longwinter is finished.

Or, you know, finished-ish. I didn't complete all the art. The layout, well, I'll let Anna tweak that later. But, finished-ish. Goodish enoughish. It was supposed to be short ... but at 39,000 odd words it's not very short any more. Oh well.

Look, I know! I know. I wrote too much. It wanted to be written.

The bucolic setting overlaying dark troubles and horror wanted to be out there, in all our faces, pretending it was safe and sound.

So here it is ... more tables and tools than you probably ever thought you wanted or needed for a winter icebox. And four-odd overlapping faction trackers. And in-world advertorials for weapons. And ethnographic fragments. And more rivers and mountains for any game you want to use them in that you can shake on the end of a big stick.

But. But still, I hope you will enjoy this Christmas-Boxing-Day-New-Year's present.

May it bring you cheer and snow!

And I hope you'll let me know what you'd like to see added to, expanded upon, written about in the many-tree-lined wonderness of Brezim and beyond.

May it say how thankful I am that you were so patient with me this year as I slowly overdid things on the UVG.

Here's to a smoother 2020!

—Luka, Seoul, No Snow

What's New in Longwinter 3:

split into two books (though they're stuck together in the .pdf) - one for everyone, one for referee

- went full tour book on the first one

- more on the factions/groups

- culture and economy in Brezim, including a ton of folk rituals

- more on the towns, villages, mountains, and rivers

- expanded notes on the local points of interest

- common guns and brands

- faction trackers to give events every time the party arrives at a new location during the long winter, including a catch 22 victory condition

- ways trying to help / hurt Winterwhite plays out

Notes:

  • the layout is a little rougher than usual because I focused on finishing the text
  • all the art's not there yet because I've learned a valuable lesson from the UVG: have your final layout ready before you make all the art. Because it won't be all the art otherwise.
  • there may well be typos and spelling errors. I apologize for those - I didn't figure out how to use the Affinity Publisher spell checker yet.
  • the bookmarks and hyperlinks don't work and ... dunno. New software and I dunno for now.
  • It's really getting late here.
  • So I'll log off now.
  • Ciao!
