Oof. This week has been ... a rush. A rollercoaster.

First the UVG kickstarter was a little late, because we had to wait for it to be approved, then it was approved 36 hours earlier than we'd planned, then it exploded and in 28 hours blew through the first two stretch goals. Exalted Funeral has been wonderful throughout (and is now the point-of-contact for every question, haha!).

It was amazing.

At the same time, my vacation drew closer and closer, like a great electro-magnetic cloud, bringing silence and respite.

It was inexorable. Relief but also anxiety, as I realized I was running out of time.

I said to my wife, "maybe I should take my computer along, I can finish Chapter 4 ... I've written all the text, need to just finish editing and ..."

She said, "no."

I asked my friend, "maybe just a couple of days, you know, or for the evenings ..."

He said, "no, listen man, no. You can bring a notebook and a few pens. That's it."

Life is funny, you get long stretches of quietly working away, and then everything happens in a mad rush all at once.

So, here's what I can say about Chapter 4

It's got 30 more events for the city, and some of them are terrible, and some of them are sad.

It has two new neighborhoods, one of which is actually a massive homeostatic ritual rune for maintaining a tractable labor force, while the other is a failed attempt to recreate a heaven.

The bestiary now encompasses about 90 creatures, from mundane (neural catfish) to the mildly horrible (undead deer) and rather silly (demon of stormy indigestion).

It's bringing tables for generating random ghouls, random soldiers, and random refugees.

It finally brings dragons, even if they are mummified.

And yes, more cats. Lots more cats.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, everyone

I have to mention how happy I am that I am not running this patreon on a per-month basis, because even as it is, I feel quite unhappy about not meeting my self-set deadline for providing you with the next chapter.

That said, I can only thank you deeply for your understanding—I want it to look and read as good as the others, and that will take a few more days, which I just do not have between this afternoon (it's 15:00 now in Seoul) and tomorrow morning.

I can also say that, for the Longwinter fans, I plan to finish that project after Red Sky Chapter 4 ... whether it'll take one more installment or two.

After that: dead heat to finish Red Sky, with the small tiny detour of the UVG book in between!

Cheers, and to those who celebrate it: happy Valentine's Day!

P.S. - and here's the original header, which uhh ... became out of date before I finished this post. Again, that Ultraviolet Grasslands kickstarter link.

Thank you! ^_^ Like, there's a part of me that can't stop poking and prodding at the patreon and the kickstarter ... but also: my brain needs a bit of silent time. Peace and wintercheer to all ;)

You're the single most prolific patreon I follow. Don't worry about skipping a bit, it'll just make you appear less superhuman.
