In your mention of domestic pigs, you missed out on Churchill's point - "Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." I'd don't know what goes through a boar's mind as it faces up against a hunter, but I suspected it's something similar.

My family kept pigs when I was a kid in France. They don't have much in the way of facial expression but they are quite vocal and have a contented grunt. We only ever had one that was ornery. Most were quite friendly, liked a scratch behind the ear or a good brushing down with the yard broom. They also had a football to kick around their coop and would come if called. And then we ate them.
