Steve

The Greek gods seem like humanity stripped down to base emotional responses, the most common of which seems to be jealousy. I'm not sure how Ken Hite treats them in this 13th Age campaign but they seem like the scheming and bickering types who would deliver a great backstory to any game, as long as the characters had enough emotional depth.

Enjoyed the podcast as always. Ward's city/rural dichotomy in the introduction seems to me to ignore not only the role-playing possibilities of interpolis sanctuaries such as Delphi, Olympia or Dodona, but also those of temple complexes and sanctuaries within a polis but outside the metropolitan area, such as the sanctuary to Demeter at Eleusis, or Artemis at Brauron or the temples to Poseidon and Athene at Sounion. The fractured but interconnected world of the polis would make a great template for a campaign, especially given the complexity of Greek responses to the stories associated with their gods, which you highlighted in the episode.

I think that one of those types of temple complexes would be very interesting. Most religious locations written up in D&D and similar fantasy games tend to be heavily modelled on medieval monasteries -- which, don't get me wrong, are incredibly interesting places. But some variety would be fun too.
