I was looking up Stone-ribs, and found this book which might be about Qagwaaz: https://bit.ly/2Q4TWHu. It seems they are the same hero. They are certainly very similar in their D&D entries.

That is one theory that has been proposed, but in that story Q!a'g.awa-i is a sea monster, not a person, and it isn't set in the plains region but in the Pacific Northwest. It may be that Ward got the name of the monster and of the hero mixed up, but it's weird that he then *also* put a section on Stone-ribs into the book. I just don't know.
