Great episode. I'm amazed that you could do this episode without mentioning Spock! He is the perfect example of your interpreter/ambassador architype. And he has the ears...

monsterman

I even mentioned Spock in my notes, although I never got around to it. On the one hand, Spock definitely has the inter-cultural thing (and the just-better thing), but on the other hand he's sort of the opposite; detached and cool rather than graceful and charming. How tormented he is by his divided heritage varies (or its presentation varies in effectiveness) -- his main problem seems to be one racist coworker!

I once made a world in which ALL Elves were Half-Elves! Or, more properly, the only pure-blooded Elves were actually the Fey and the people that everyone called Elves were already the result of banished Fey breeding with Humans. What everyone called Half-Elves were actually just Elves who favored the Human ancestry that all living Elves had. Some were the result of Elf-Human romance, but they could be the result of Human blood emerging in an Elven family (or, even more rarely, Elven blood emerging in a Human family that didn't know they had any Elven ancestors). For Humans it was just weird and sometimes scary that you could have a pointy-eared magically inclined child, but for Elves it was a terrible and shameful thing to have one of your children pop out so... debased. Most of the "pure" Fey on Earth had died long ago, though here and there were Elven cities ruled by mysterious and powerful monarchs who were probably either ancient Fey exiles or only one generation removed from the Feywild.
