Aquatic Breathing

Aquatic Breathing.

That was the skill he got from the fish’s token.

Focusing on the skills of one’s status plate provided a person with a rough description of these skills’ benefits and abilities.

And Faeran didn't hesitate to look into it.

From what he could see, Aquatic Breathing was a passive skill that came into effect whenever he was submerged in water, or at least the orifices he breathed from were. It would drain one point of his Magic Power per second he was underwater and allow him to breathe.

While it was passive though, it seemed that it could be triggered manually as well at any point using just his Magic Power.

… That was incredibly useful. While it wasn't powerful, it would benefit him nonetheless.

"Yeah, I can definitely use this." Faeran couldn't stop the massive grin that had formed on his face at all.

After all, he now had a way to train his Magic Power just like his body. It was a much slower method than using stat points, but magic worked like a muscle in Hellion Online. When it was drained, it grew.

And not only that … it would do wonders for his physical training as well! He could literally train under water to make things even more intensive than ever!

"Today has been a really good day," he decided and found himself whistling a cheery tune on his way out of the forest.

The main capital city of Levia was a port city on the ocean Which meant fish weren't the most high in demand.

Luckily, it was a huge city with a population over five hundred thousand, and Faeran lived at the opposite end of where the harbor fish markets were.

It didn't improve the price at all, and the fish he caught went typically for half the price they'd go for in most other places, if even that. Four bronze coins apiece.

What it did improve though, was the speed of people coming to him at a small rickety stand he'd put together months ago, when he first started killing fish for experience to level up.

It took just over two hours or so for him to sell all of twenty nine of the fish he'd caught for the day.

"I'm gonna have to visit an bank soon at this rate," Faeran mused as he made his way back to the forest, a small sack in his hand ringing with jingling coins.

He'd made one hundred and sixteen bronze coins from his haul today. Which wasn't bad at all.

As far as currency went in this world, it was a simple system. One hundred bronze coins were equal to a single silver coin. One hundred silver coins were equal to a single gold coin, and one hundred gold coins were equal to one platinum coin.

With how much he made today, that would bring him to a total of eight thousand, six hundred and twenty eight bronze coins.

So roughly eighty six silver coins worth.

Good. At this point he could probably buy some decent armor and a weapon and still have a little left over.

He'd totally need it when he started putting his plans fully into motion.

This is so cool, Faeran gasped inwardly, taking in the deep blue depths of the lake.

All around him he could see fish of varying species and sizes swiftly swimming through the water, various plant life he couldn't see on the surface, and more.

And that was only what he could see right now, who knew what else was down here?

Spreading his arms and legs, Faeran began to swim through the water, taking in the sights for the moment.

He'd have plenty of time to explore later. After all, once he'd stashed his things away and re-tied his vine net to the last free rock set up around the lake, he'd decided to try out his new skill.

And it was very cool.

Though, beyond that, it was very … peculiar. It was a surreal experience being able to breath under water.

Though I've gotta keep in mind I only have three hundred seconds under here … well quite a bit less than that now actually, he reminded himself.

As he was now, he wouldn't be able to abuse it as much as he wanted. He wasn't sure how fast his Magic Power would regenerate here. In the actual game, typically without any buffs, recovery points or anything like that, magic power would recover at 0.5% per minute and take two hundred minutes in total for a player's Magic Power to fully recover.

So just a bit over three hours.

Going by the recovery rate, he could drain his magic power seven and a half times when training it.

But that wasn't taking into account the fact he needed to sleep. So it would probably be closer to five times a day he would be able to drain his Magic Power dry.

Well, three hundred seconds isn't all that much, I could wake up between them maybe? he pondered as he continued swimming.

Only to pause and grimace when he noticed how quickly his magic power was draining.

His time was almost up; he had about a minute left.

Before he decided to head up to the surface though, Faeran turned with a grin towards a small school of fish facing away from him.

Rip and tear for experience points and dinner!

                                                   ______________

Catching fish with his bare hands while underwater, even when they were not prepared for him … was a lot harder than he thought it would be.

Faeran thought he was going to snatch up a bunch and finish them, head already filled with the possibility of hunting deep in the shimmering blue depths of the lake.

Reality, as he often found, was disappointing.

He only managed to get his hands on two of them before the rest got away. Which sucked because there had to be a good hundred fish at least in that school of them.

Killing that full school would be akin to over ten days of the usual experience farming method he'd come up with!

Oh well, the boy shrugged. It may have sucked but he wasn't the type to dwell on things like that and let them weigh him down.

It was just a waste of time.

Currently, he was back at the orphanage, once again out in the garden. Instead of using his makeshift weights, he was currently crouched over a small fire pit he'd made upon coming back.

His two aquatic catches were skewered on sticks and pierced into the ground at the edge of the fire pit.

Thank god for the Boy Scouts and him learning how to make a fire without a lighter … or fire magic with them.

It made it possible to cook his vital proteins after all!

"Faeran?" a voice spoke up from behind.

Looking over his shoulder, he noticed it was Sister Maria giving him an odd look.  "… Is that a fire?" she asked, looking rather confused.

The poor woman often had a look like that on her face when it came to him. She could never understand why he did all the things he did, which was fair. After all, training to increase stats was a foreign concept in this world right now.

He wouldn't have minded explaining it to her, but she was a kind person who wasn't very intrusive at all. She was a lot different from the other orphanage staff who had long since given up on understanding him and just let him do his own thing, barely paying him any attention unless he directly spoke to them or they needed him for something.

That wasn't anything against them; it was literally him that was the problem. They didn't exactly have any experience dealing with a child that already came with a fully developed mind and who had a better education than them.

"Yup, I'm cooking some fish I caught earlier," he grinned at her as he answered, gesturing towards the fish with one of his arms. "You want one? Though it's pretty expensive, it'll cost a kiss."

Maria pouted, "Still teasing me I see; that's not nice you know, Faeran," she replied, making her way closer, "You can fish?" His words didn't stop her curiosity getting the better of her.

It amused him how she always thought he was teasing her. Granted, in a way he was. This world was headed towards ruin so he didn't have time for any form of romantic relationship right now. He had to train and become stronger.

Not to mention, he was a child right now.

But if he were a little bit older and had hit his teenage years again and didn't have to worry about a literal apocalypse that would see him dead if he was too weak?

He would definitely go for Maria.

"Aye, among other things." He nodded, standing up and turning to face her fully. "So want to join me for a bite?" he asked, taking her in.

Maria wasn't some grand beauty, but she was pretty in the girl next door type of way. With soft cheeks, light purple coloured eyes and long, braided chestnut hair.

Not to mention she was pretty damn voluptuous, so much so he could even notice it easily through the nun robes she wore all the time.

And the age difference wasn't really a factor to be honest. The problem generally with marrying someone older, was, at least in Faeran’s opinion, that they’d get old and wrinkly long before him. But, that was easily dealt with in this world.

Those who leveled up had their life span increase. In a few years, he'd be able to power level a casual person up a little pretty easily and could take care of that without problem.

"… Well I am a bit peckish, I've not had much time to eat today," she admitted. "Are you sure though? You must have worked hard to catch them."

"Nah, I can catch dozens of these a day easily," he replied, grin widening. Despite the reasons he gave for not pursuing her, the instinct to impress her was still rooted in his core, so the boast came loose almost automatically. A pretty lady was still a pretty lady in the end, "I can show you sometime if you want."

Maria gave him an odd look before smiling softly, "I might take you up on that one day when I have some free time," she said. "You must have caught them at the lake in the forest you always go to play in right? It might be nice to visit it and relax there for a little bit."

Well, he supposed, looking at it from another angle he did play in the forest. It wasn't like he had a bad time there after all.

Fishing used to be a nice hobby of his before he ended up here. And he always loved working up a sweat and feeling his muscles burn from an intense workout.

It had allowed him to vent his frustration over his parents in that life.

"Fine with me." Faeran shrugged. Spending time with a pretty lady like Maria, who was easy to get along with, was not at all his idea of a bad time, "Though, you should make sure to bring a swimsuit when you do. I recommend a bikini, a pink one."

Another fun fact about this world. Because it was based on an otome game, much of the clothing was rather modern looking.

Underwear, swimsuits and such being one article of clothing given very special attention during the game.

Maria's cheeks burned red at his words, "Faeran, you're incorrigible!" she admonished him cutely.

… Ah, if only he were older.
