Duff's plan was simple, yet beautifully genius in its complexity.

Steal a Sacred Gear.

He had no idea at all what good his game status thing would do him. He had no idea how to use magic.

The only way for humans at all to be relevant in DxD were to be reincarnated as a devil, have a Sacred Gear or be descended from someone important and powerful.

All things that did not at all apply to Duff.

But, there was a way for him to steal a Sacred Gear.

Despite how shitty this power he had seemed to be, the ability to appraise not only inanimate objects, but energy and even people was incredibly useful.

Especially since, he already knew thanks to seeing Issei Hyoudou, that he could see if someone had a Sacred Gear or not.

He could find anyone with a Sacred Gear, now he just needed the ability to steal one.

'Which I can learn at this church.' Duff mused to himself. Honestly, for a church, it was a pretty large, grandiose place.

Easily bigger than a mansion, and blocked off by a large ornate gate and fence. In the distance behind the church, he could make out a forest as well.

He was currently perched atop a dumpster in an alleyway just around the corner from it, which had a decent view of the gates, idly kicking his feet back and forth.

He'd been here twenty five minutes or so already.

It wasn't hard to find the place, he'd just asked a guy on the street for directions and he was pointed towards the place.

While he was rushing things…

And doing something quite risky.

'This is the best play.' he huffed. He had little money, no place to live and no ID.

…But from what he remembered, Raynare's crew welcomed in stray exorcists to use as fodder.

All he had to do was pose as one of them. And he could live at the abandoned church, for a week or two until Raynare got her sweet round thong clad ass smoked by Rias' crew.

It would give him a place to live for a little bit to plan his next move though, which was good, and even better, he could find out how to extract Sacred Gears while he was there.

'Now all I need is to find an exorcist, gank him and steal his shit.' Duff mused.

…That was the only problem with the plan. To pose as an exorcist, he needed the gear of an exorcist.

Which he could only get from an exorcist.

…He almost said fuck it and gave up on his plan.

                                                                ___________

Hours passed while he wasted time in an alleyway. The only saving grace was that it was pretty clean for an alley and not all that bad smelling.

'This blows.' Duff growled, clenching his hand into a fist.

Like really really really, seriously blowed donkey cock.

He didn't ask for this shit. He missed his house, and his games, and his pc, and his bed…and his fridge.

Fuck he was hungry.

He hadn't eaten at all even before he ended up here beyond his protein shake. How long had even passed? A day? Two? Three?

There was no way for him to tell.

It just served to piss him off though.

This was nothing at all like the stories he saw. Where they started with perks and gacha and resources and all that other shit. He didn't even have a fucking roof over his head.

'Fucking Issei Hyoudou.' Duff growled, shifting his aggression. That punk right now was probably being all healed up and laying in bed getting smothered by Rias Gremory's huge, soft comfortable tits.

He got to rest in those absurd mammaries that would most likely put even the knockers he barely got a glimpse at on Raynare's chest and had the Boosted Gear.

Some fuckers had all the luck.

'You're lucky punk, if you weren't already reincarnated by Rias and I could end up with Sirzechs and shit on my ass, I'd be ganking your ass and taking the Boosted Gear later!'

Boosted Gear, now that would solve all his damn problems. Well, mostly.

More time passed.

The frustration began to get at Duff.

'Maybe I should just go to Rias or even Sona, the fact I can see if people have Sacred Gears and what type they are should be worth reincarnating me, rig-'

The sound of gates opening cut off the teenagers thoughts and his head whipped around on instinct to the abandoned church.

There, the gates had been pulled open, and stepping out of them, was a tall, willowy built man with hair set in a long black ponytail, wearing a long black trench coat with golden embroidery on the front, that would form a cross when the coat was zipped fully.

'…Oh thank fuck.' Duff groaned inwardly, relief filling him.

He slipped off of the garbage bin he was sitting on and bent down, picking up his trusty rock that he'd brought with him and set at his feet.

He was at one side of the alley, he made his way to the other, which opened up at the path the exorcist made his way down from the gate.

There was a reason he chose this alley specifically. Whatever route they took, they'd walk right by it.

…Assuming they couldn't and didn't fly.

He pressed his back flat against the wall, taking in a deep breath and making himself as hard to spot as possible without directly looking.

The streets at the abandoned church were weirdly empty, so the only one walking on this street right now, was the exorcist himself.

His foot steps echoed like thunder in Duff's ears and he swallowed heavily.

'…Am I really going to do this?' he asked himself, before ruthlessly crushing any hesitation.

He had no other option besides going to Rias. And as tempting as that was with all the benefits it provided, he would find himself in the line of fire with all the absurd enemies that came with it.

A split few moments later, they got louder and louder, and the exorcists shadow appeared on the sidewalk just outside the alley.

And then the exorcist himself walked past and Duff froze, for all of a second.

Luck was in his favour though.

The man didn't seem to find anything remiss and didn't notice the teenager.

He didn't bother using appraisal, just in case. If he saw too high of a level, he may just chicken out.

And so he made his move.

He stepped out behind the exorcist and swung the thick rock in his hand with all his might.

It slammed the back of the mans head, and a choked gasp erupted from his throat as he fell forward, slamming into the ground, groaning in pain.

Duff noticed blood staining the back of the rock, but with the adrenaline running in his veins, he ignored it.

He grit his teeth, and brought the rock down atop the back of the mans head. Then he did it again, and again.

Blood splashed up over his face as he beat the back of the exorcists head in with his rock, 'It's fine, it's fine, this guy would help kill Asia and steal her sacred gear and he's probably just like Freed, it's alright to kill him.' he assured himself over and over.

Even after multiple hits to the back of the head, the man seemed to thrash and try to get up, so Duff didn't let up. A normal person would have died with one, maybe two blows like this to the back of the head at most.

This guy was still going after eight.

Duff would have kept beating him over the head until he was sure he was dead, if not for a screen popping up in his vision all of a sudden, halting his actions.

Class:
Assassin Level 1 Gained!

For a few moments, Duff just stared at the notification blankly, panting deeply, rock heaved up over his hand in preparation for another swing.

He probably would have stared for a bit longer, if not for the notification disappearing after a few seconds.

It did the trick of breaking him out of his daze though.

Quickly, Duff pulled back from the now former exorcist and now corpse, and quickly tossed the rock into the alleyway before grabbing the corpse by the legs and dragging it in out of view.

"…Holy shit I just killed a guy." a disbelieving laugh left his throat at he stared down at his handiwork.

The back of the guys skull had been cracked right open, blood, bone and brain matter oozed out in a flurried disgusting concoction of pink, red and white.

The funniest bit though-

'I…don't even care.' he realised.

To be exact, he felt kind of numb to it all. This whole situation around him, left him with literally zero fucks to give, especially because-

This guy really was most likely a piece of shit. Everyone in Raynare's crew was a piece of shit. Hell, this guy probably had some inclinations along Freed's, no doubt this man had murdered, tortured, possibly even raped.

All the same crimes as Freed.

And Duff actually felt a bit validated at killing this man after those thoughts.

"Yeah…yeah, this guy deserved it." he nodded to himself, before grabbing what he actually went after him for in the first place.

He grabbed the long black exorcist coat and ripped it off the corpse, before draping it over his shoulders and slipping his arms in it.

As he did, another notification appeared before his eyes.

Class:
Thief Level 1 Gained!

'Another one?' Duff blinked.

Though, it made sense, as did the first one. As messy as it had been, not clean or quick at all, he really had basically assassinated the exorcist, and now he was stealing his stuff.

The exact reason he had targeted him in the first place, so he could pose as an exorcist.

Still, these had him curios now. He had two new classes, maybe they would actually do something for him?

He held his arm up, "Appraisal." he said softly.

Name: Duff Evander
Age: 16
Magic Power: 71/71

Class:
[Human: Level 3]
[Assassin - Level 1]
[Thief - Level 1]
[-]
[-]

Equipment:

Huh.

His human class had levelled up, twice at that. He quickly appraised it, only to sigh when as expected, he saw no change.

'Let's see the Assassin one, appraise.' he thought.

Assassin Class Level 1:
Speed x 2
Dexterity x 2
Reflexes x 2

Critical Gaze:
Through appraising a target,
one can see their body's
weak points.

Duff's eyes widening, 'Wait, what, doubling my speed, reflexes and dexterity!?'

Assassin was way fucking better than the human class!

"Now this is what I'm talking about!" he grinned widely. He was so, so glad this piece of shit at his feet just delivered himself on a platter up to Duff.

He waved his hand through the screen, dissipating it, before doing the very same with the Thief class.

Thief Class Level 1:
Speed x 1.5
Dexterity x 1.5
Reflexes x 1.5

Sticky Fingers:
Through the use of
magic power, the user
gains an adhesive
touch through their hands.

And the Thief class despite not giving as good a passive ability as the Assassin class, was awesome in of itself. And he was apparently half a Spider Man with it as well.

'Wait, how does this work though?' he wondered. Like, it had multipliers for a few of his physical abilities.

…But he didn't exactly have stats or anything.

'Last I clocked it, I could run twenty three kilometres per hour,' he'd always been pretty fast and only got faster after the few years he'd done his milk run. He bit his lip in thought, 'So would that mean I can run sixty nine kilometres per hour right now?' he wondered.

That would be nearly twice as fast as the fastest man in the world back home. Purely and utterly superhuman.

"I'll check it out later." he shook his head, putting it out of mind for now. He'd figure out the specifics of this game system or whatever it was when he had the free time to.

…Not when he was standing over a corpse.

He crouched over the corpse, finding that beyond the coat, he had a set of shoulder holsters with two guns within them, and a small part that held a single handle.

He appraised both of them.

Light Gun
A weapon that converts the users magic power into light.

Light Sword
A weapon that converts the users magic power into light.

Well, that was more or less expected. But, very useful nonetheless. These would deal some nice heavy damage to any devils he ended up fighting.

He quickly unstrapped the holsters before strapping them over his own chest and then raiding the mans pockets.

He found a wallet, stuffed to the brim with notes. Yen, if he was correct, which made sense them being in Japan and all.

"This will do nicely." a wide grin spread across his face. Now he had some money he wouldn't need to exchange for the local currency.

I'm looking forward to what sacred gear he plans to get. Also curious what he plans to do and if he wants to become a devil.
