The sounds of birds chirping resonated in his ears and Duff groaned, rolling over, reaching for his pillow to clamp it over his head and drown out the annoying high pitched noise.

Damn birds weren't even considerate enough to let his alarm clock screech at him to wake up.

Oddly though, he couldn't find his pillow, and the light piercing even through his eyelids faintly, was much brighter than it should have been.

Did someone open his curtains?

"…For fuck sake!" Duff groaned, sitting up and rubbing his eyes, clearing the sleep from them.

As he pulled his hands away and opened his eyes though…he was not at all expecting what greeted his vision.

Freshly cut green grass.

Tall trees all around.

Flowers, weeds and all.

"What?" he gaped and just stared.

What the hell?

No…seriously, what?

"Is this some kind of prank?" he wondered, utterly bemused. Did he get drunk last night or something and not remember it?

No, that didn't seem right at all.

The last he remembered, he had just gotten back from the gym and it was only early afternoon. He'd hit the place up after his milk run as he always did on Mondays and Thursdays.

When he'd gotten in, he'd jumped on his PC and browsed the internet while enjoying his lovely vanilla flavour protein shake.

He remembered there was a pop up, some kind of internet browser game, he'd been intrigued because it had a mish mash of anime characters he'd liked.

…But that was the last he remembered. After clicking on the play button and waiting on the game loading, everything was blank.

"Did I go out with the lads and get sloshed?" he wondered, pushing himself up and giving himself a look over.

He was still in the clothes he wore to the gym, a simple pair of black shorts and a grey sleeveless zip up hoodie. He'd been planning on changing out of them and getting a shower after he was done with his protein shake.

His fitbit was still on his wrist, and his silver celtic chain necklace was still around his neck.

He rifled through his pockets, finding his wallet, which still contained the same amount of money he had in it yesterday, three hundred and sixty pounds in notes, and two pound coins he kept to use the locker at the gym.

And alongside his wallet, was his phone.

If he did go out and get sloshed last night, someone else seemed to have been kind enough to pay.

…That didn't seem right at all.

Shaking his head, Duff pulled up his contact list and scrolled down, finding the name of his best friend. If anybody knew how he ended up here, he would, especially considering when he tended to end up in situations like this…

It was that dickheads fault in the first place.

He clicked call and brought it up to his ear.

"The number you have called has not been recognised." a monotone male voice relayed to him a moment later.

…What?

Duff's eyebrows furrowed, "The fuck?" he brought his phone down and stared at it.

Since when did the operator voice thing for his network have a male voice? It was always female. And that wasn't the message he usually got for a number not in service either.

He tried again, only to get the same message. Before trying with multiple different contacts.

…All the same.

Duff started breathing heavily, a bit of a panic coming over him, "Okay…what the fuck man?" he looked around himself, eyes darting from tree to tree.

But nothing stood out.

…Except for those annoying chirping birds.

"Right, calm the fuck down mate." he slapped his cheek hard, forcing himself to slow his breathing down.

And that at least confirmed it wasn't a dream.

Because the sting from it felt all too real.

'Alright, alright just need to keep calm and appraise the situation t-' Duff thought to himself, making a plan of action.

But before his thoughts even finished, they were cut off. Not by anyone or even himself.

But, by multiple black screens blinking into existence, spread out across his vision.

[Grass]

[Grass]

[Evergreen Tree]

[Evergreen Tree]

[Grass]

[Evergreen Tree]

[Evergreen Tree]

[Evergreen Tree]

All around him, everything he was looking at had some kind of screen and indicator of what they were.

Almost akin to something right out of a game.

Duff couldn't even form a thought for a good few seconds, "……..What the fuck?" he repeated.

Totally lost.

How…why?

The black screens filled with blood red writing faded away after a few seconds and Duff's thoughts slowly sped up until they were racing.

'The hell was that? That was something right out of a game, like an examine feature or something.' he shook his head.

It didn't even make sense. Not just the why, but the how as well. How did that work?

'Was it because of the world appraisal, maybe?' he wondered.

As he thought that, once again, multiple black screens popped up hovering over the trees that were in his vision.

"…Alright, this is fucking freaky." he stared at the black screens until they faded away.

It was like…he was in a game or something. Like one of these weird wish fulfilment manga he liked to read.

"As if, no trucks ran my ass over," he snorted to himself, "If it was, I'd probably have something like a status page or something."

He paused, waiting.

He almost expected something to happen and another screen to pop up. But nope, even after a good five or six seconds, nothing.

"Status!" he tried again, and again, nothing, "Information! Examine! Stat Page! Skills!"

Zero, zilch, nada.

Nothing popped up.

"As expected," he huffed rolling his eyes, that would be way to convenient, "This has to be a delusion or something then, or maybe I had a heart attack and died, either way this place sucks ass, all I get from this crap is this shitty appraisal thing." he raised his arm to run his hand through his hair.

As he did though, his eyes locked on his arm.

And a familiar black screen appeared.

Only it was a bit different from the other ones.

Name: Duff Evander
Age: 16
Magic Power: 71/71

Class:
[Human: Level 1]
[-]
[-]
[-]
[-]

Equipment:

Duff blinked, "…The fuck?" he gaped.

Fuck was beginning to become his favourite word at this point.

Apparently this delusion did provide a status page. He just had to appraise himself to see it.

…And it was one weird…crappy stat page at that. Where was the strength stat, the durability stat, the speed stat, the perks and shit like that?

No, all he got was his name, age, magic power measurement and a class system.

Granted, the magic power thing seemed interesting and seemed to have potential. But what was up with that weird number? 71? What kind of weird ass starting amount of magic power was that? Shouldn't it have been like one hundred or something?

And then there was-

Human Class Level 1.

And beyond that, four slots below it.

So, did that mean he could get multiple classes then? Like Rogue, Mage, Barbarian, Cleric and shit?

If it was anything like the class systems right out of a typical RPG then the classes would provide like abilities and resistances and stuff, right?

Though the fact that human was a class at all, seemed to indicate there were other races, most likely supernatural ones.

'Maybe if I…' his thoughts trailed off and he focused on the human class, "Appraisal." he tried again.

He grinned as the screen shifted, before his grin died immediately after at what he saw.

Human Class Level 1:
Humanity has no inborn natural power.
Invalidates Racial Weakness.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" he deadpanned at the screen. No buffs, no abilities, humans were apparently powerless. That invalidating racial weakness thing looked interesting, but if that was anything like how vampires were weak to sunlight and shit…then it was absolutely useless, not unless he could keep the class after like turning into a vampire or werewolf or something.

Hell, what was even the point of the human class having a level! It didn't seem to even have anything that could increase with a level. No stats or anything.

"…Maybe it'll unlock something at a higher level?" he wondered for a moment, before crushing that thought.

It said right there on the screen itself, humans had no inborn powers. Except maybe magic power.

But then, how the hell would he even go about using that?

He lifted his hand, "Fireball!" he shouted.

Nothing.

"Mana bolt?" he tried next.

Nothing again.

He sighed, "As expected really." he groused, as if anything could ever go that easily for him.

He ran a hand through his hair, putting the thoughts of the weird game like status screen out of his mind for the moment.

Right now, he had more pressing matters to attend to. Like…where the fuck he was and-

The world suddenly flickered around him, the colours of everything in view dimming as the sky darkened, going from a bright blue to a deep purple that cast an almost ominous darkness over the area.

Duff froze, "What's going on?" he wondered, swallowing.

He fell into a crouched stance, ready to make a bolt for it in the opposite direction of anything that appeared near him.

But after a few seconds, nothing happened…

Again.

Hell, the birds were still happily and annoyingly chirping away. If he could cast a fireball right now, he'd love to burn them out of existence.

Annoying high pitched fuckers.

And he couldn't even see them to pelt them with a rock or something since they were hidden within the trees.

Sure a fireball would start a forest fire, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to make to shut them up.

"Fucking birds." Duff huffed, before shaking his head and looking up at the purple sky, a frown appearing on his face, "Appraisal." he tried.

He wasn't really expecting much to happen, appraising the sky seemed like a tall order, especially since-

Light Barrier:
A barrier created from the light energy of a Fallen Angel.

Huh.

"…Wait, what?" Duff blinked as he read the screen over multiple times. No seriously, what the hell?

A fallen angel?

What kind of buggy ass game was this?

"Your supposed to start with fucking slimes or goblins, not a fucking Fallen Angel!" Duff snarled, swiping his hand through the screen and relishing in watching it fizzle away and disappear.

Shit, this fucking sucked!

And if this was anything like what a normal game would be like, then this was the tutorial area and he'd have to beat the crap out of that first enemy to advance.

"Fuck that shit, I'm out!" Duff decided, sticking the middle finger up at the sky, and turning on his heel and just walking forward.

He was getting the fuck out of here before this fallen angel fucker came to rain down the fury of god on his ass, or go all Lucifer and jam a pineapple up his ass.

Duff still wasn't sure what the hell was going on to be honest, he was just rolling with it and rationalizing things as best he could.

All he knew, was that this shit was bullshit.

As such, he grabbed the first big rock he came across while making his way through what seemed to be a forest at first thought.

He soon discovered it was not though.

When he came to the edge of the tree line and could see what looked like a park beyond the trees. Smooth pathing, a few small area with a fenced off play area for kids, rubbish bins, a big lovely looking forest.

…And people.

Two people to be specific.

Duff wasted no time in jumping behind a tree and peeking out the side of the it to watch them.

He couldn't quite make out their faces, but one was a scrawny looking brown haired guy in casual clothes, roughly about his age, while the other seemed to be a curvaceous black haired girl in a summer dress.

…One of these two, or probably both of them knowing his luck were fallen angels.

Of course that would be how things go, that was just his luck. His starting enemies were two fallen angels while everyone else would get a slime or a rat, or a half dead starving goblin.

And all he had was a rock to smash the back of their heads in with Typical.

If this was a game, it was totally bugged. Was this fucking hell mode or something?

Duff put that out of mind and focused on the brown haired guy first, 'Appraisal.' he thought.

Name: Issei Hyoudou
Age: 17
Magic Power: 0.01/0.01

Class:
[Human: Level 2]

Equipment:
[Boosted Gear]

Issei Hyoudou…?

'As in that stupid fuck from Highschool Dxd?' Duff's eyes went wide open. And now that he thought about it, that game pop up, it had included the main heroine and a few other girls from Highschool DxD, and girls from a bunch of other anime alongside them.

His thoughts raced.

This…this actually seemed very familiar.

A purple over cast, a barrier, Issei Hyoudou, a fountain, and a voluptuous black haired girl leading him along.

'Then that makes her…!' Duff switched his gaze to the girl to was holding onto Issei's hand daintily and leading him towards the fountain. 'Appraisal.'

Name: Raynare
Age: 169
Magic Power: 5,060/5,525

Class:
[Fallen Angel: Level 15]

Equipment:

It really was Raynare!

…Then this, this was the very beginning of DxD and not a game at all.

And better yet, this wasn't a tutorial enemy for him to kill at all. It was just a bitch killing off the protagonist of the series, where he would then get resurrected by the main heroine and start things off.

'Which means, whatever the fuck happened and however the fuck I ended up in a place like this, I just need to keep out of the way and let things play out.' he thought.

And let it play out he did.

Was it a dick move? Maybe, maybe not. He didn't exactly know the guy, they weren't friends or anything and he wasn't a good enough samaritan to put his life on the line for a stranger, especially one whom he knew would be fine in the end, better than fine.

'Besides, if I jump in and die, there's no telling if I'd get brought back by Rias or something.' he thought. Which, wouldn't exactly be a bad spot to be in if he could make that happen.

He was doing his best not to think about it. But, he was in an entirely new world, little money to his name, no home, no identity, not even of legal age either and this was Japan on top of that, so he was an illegal immigrant.

Getting Rias' backing would make things easier for him, but it was too much of a risk. And approaching her after would seem suspicious as hell.

He kept only enough of his head around the tree to keep an eye on what was going on.

All things considered, it didn't take long.

Raynare let go of Issei's hand when they arrived at the front of the fountain, she said something, turning away from him, though Duff couldn't hear it because he was so far away.

And then her clothes exploded.

He watched open mouthed as her body grew more curvaceous and she became taller, clothes forming over her body, a pair of deep ebony black feathered wings erupting from her back. A pair of black thigh high boots that moulded over her full thighs, a multiple strap thong that curved up over her hips and little more than strips of leather holding her breasts up.

He could only roughly make her features out, but, even then, Duff caught himself before he approached, her body alluring him from even this far away. She was gorgeous, out of this world attractive, the most beautiful female he'd ever seen in his life, no model he'd come across could hope to compare-

He swallowed heavily, his pants tightening.

'Fucking hell.' he shook his head. It was no wonder Issei was so hung up on this bitch even after what she did.

He wasn't alone in gaping thankfully.

Issei stood there gaping open mouthed just the same, staring at the fallen angel in awe.

And then he got a glowing purple spear through the chest. It was so sudden, Duff barely even saw it forming in Raynare's hand before it was already piercing through Issei's chest and dragging him to the ground.

"-Blame god for sticking that Sacred Gear in you." his ears strained as she spoke and only caught the tale end of what she said as Issei lay dying.

Before, with a flap of her wings, she was suddenly airborne and racing through the area, speedily disappearing out of sight in a mere few seconds.

As soon as she disappeared from his gaze, the purple overcast quickly faded away as well.

Duff frowned, staring at the dying Issei, before looking away and looking at the direction Raynare flew away in.

'She was speaking to Issei, so that was Japanese.' he thought idly.

…How did he understand Japanese?

Whatever, that didn't matter.

Actually, it was probably a good thing since he would be able to understand people around here and make a plan of action.

He took off walking in the direction Raynare flew. It was tempting to stick around and get a look at Rias Gremory, but his shorts were already a bit too tight as it was with his raging hard on from seeing Raynare.

She would make it worse.

Besides, he didn't want to be found by her and end up getting any possible accusations thrown his way, or worse, having her mind whammy him to forget what he saw if she found him.

'The abandoned church should be in this direction if she flew off this way.' he thought as he walked through the trees, the more he walked, the more the sound of cars in the distance resounded in his ears.

A tentative plan began forming.

After all…

It wasn't just Raynare and her fellow fallen angels that resided at that church. And since this was DxD…there were very few ways for a human to gain power.

And he didn't like the idea of being in a place like this with little power to protect himself.
