For a moment, we both just stared at him. Me, just sheer flabbergasted, and I'm not sure about Hilda.

Seriously though, I was not expecting to run into Gary Motherfuckin' Oak today.

"Gary Oak?" Hilda was the first to respond, cocking her head to the side in interest, "As in the grandson of Professor Oak, the leading authority on all things pokemon. That Gary Oak?"

"One in the same baby cakes," Gary winked at her, "You probably saw the news interview about me starting my journey last month huh? Lemme tell you before you ask, I already have two badges." he continued on with a smirk, full on bragging.

"I wasn't going to ask that," Hilda snorted shaking her head, "But two badges in a month huh? That's really impressive." she glanced at me meaningfully.

"It's not bad," I rolled my eyes, "If you didn't at least have this much you being who you are, you wouldn't actually be worth battling." seriously, growing up under Professor Oak and having access to his wealth? With what I've learned since getting here, I'm not actually all that impressed at all really.

Hell what I've accomplished so far isn't impressive to me, never mind Gary who has probably been spamming TM's since the day he started his journey.

In game terms, he may as well have started with the max amount of rare candies.

Gary's eyes had mostly been on Hilda since he pulled up with his entourage, but now his attention shifted to me. He made to speak before pausing, tilting his head up and down and examining me, "Ain't you a bit young to be a trainer kid?" he smirked at me.

"I'm just that good, unlike you apparently." I smirked back at him.

Gary snorted, "Got your trainer license early then eh?" He caught on quick before shrugging, "I coulda done that myself if I wanted, I decided to wait till the normal age to start off at the same time as a guy I knew so I could prove how much better than him I really am, no head start like that needed."

He must be talking about Ash. For all Gary made fun of Ash in the early seasons, I remember he couldn't go two minutes in any of his appearances without talking about Ash or seeking him out. Even when he wasn't on screen he couldn't help but make sure Ash knew about him by writing on signs and shit on main routes.

"It's not exactly hard to do," I bullshitted, I don't know shit about how to get a trainer license and what is involved in it. I just appeared here with my trainer license already in existence, I should look into that at some point, "For reference, I've been a trainer for a month myself and I've got two badges as well." I added casually.

Gary's eyebrows rose, "Huh, guess there is a reason you got the license early then eh kid?" he lifted his arms from around the two cheerleaders and hopped out of the red convertible to stand in front of me and Hilda, "So how about it? You talk a good game, but can you back it up?"

"Any time, any place," I shrugged, "Just don't go crying to your grandpa when my pokemon mop the floor with yours mate."

"Aww, look at you, acting all tough in front of the babe you're travelling with," Gary mocked me right back and looked to Hilda, smirking, "How about you drop this kid and join up with me after I curb stomp him? I'm always game for new cheerleaders, especially one as good looking as you. You can ride the Gary express all the way to the top."

....Is this what I sound like? God I hope I don't sound like as big a cocky fuck as him. But, who am I kidding, I probably sound even cockier. Well, at least I can back it up and got here through my own effort and not my grandaddy's wallet I suppose.

"You're making an awful lot of assumptions kid," Hilda shook her head, "For one if I was that type of girl I'd have already been riding him." the fluffy haired girl jabbed her thumb at me.

"Heh." I puffed my chest proudly, damn right.

"That so?" Gary stroked his chin and looked at me, unbothered by the rejection and then turned back to Hilda, "If that's one, what's second?"

"You thinking you can actually beat Jord," Hilda smirked at him, "This kid's a freak of nature when it comes to training pokemon, if you only started last month I doubt you can even come close to beating him, I've got six badges and he creamed me." she boasted back.

I'd much rather cream her in a completely different way, and besides we only had a single short one on one, Pidgeotto vs Emboar and sure Emboar couldn't do much due to Pidgeotto's sheer speed, but it wasn't like we curb stomped her.

"You must not be all that as a trainer then," Gary snorted, "What makes the month he's been a trainer make him so much better than me being a trainer for a month?"

"I'm just better than you." I cut in and stared him right in the eye.

"You wish kid," the spiky haired Pallet native snorted, "Alright then, let's go here and now, me and you. Two on two, how does that sound?"

"Fine with me, let's do it." I agreed.

"Right then, down there should be fine for a quick rinse for your pokemon." Gary pointed down the grassy hill from the road we were on, where a large grassy field sat.

Gary didn't even wait for me to agree, instead he lifted his arm into the air and clicked his fingers. Like dogs, the girls in his car all hurriedly jumped out, having been silent all this time, each pulling out a pair of pom poms and hurrying after him.

"...Are you kidding me?" Hilda stared at the group of girls dryly, "Do these bitches have no shame?"

"Apparently not, gotta admit though, he's got style," I admired the way he had a bunch of good looking, curvy women all trailing after him and hanging on his every word, "They've got nothing on you, but not bad at all."

"They're gold diggers Jord," Hilda rolled her eyes as we made our way down the grassy hill, "You could probably have a bunch just like them trailing after you as well if you wanted."

"Really?" my interest was piqued, "I'll keep that in mind."

"You do that, but I'll be going my separate way from you if you do it." Hilda added.

"Understandable." I nodded. I mean, I wouldn't be up for travelling with her if she had a bunch of gigolo's that she was banging following along.

And there was no doubt in my mind Gary was banging those bitches. At least, I hope he is. If he's just using them as a status symbol to show off, then I'll have to revoke his man card and award him a beta male card.

"Alright, we'll keep things simple, on a count of three we'll release our pokemon, got it?" Gary called over to me when I took position a good thirty feet across from him, holding up a pokeball in his hand.

"Got it." I replied. I debated for a moment on what pokemon I should pick. Gary's strongest pokemon was always his starter, his Blastoise was a monster in the anime.

So no doubt his starter was one of the two he was gonna use, because he'll want to prove he's better than me.

In that case, I'll go with Shiftry as my first. That decided, I grabbed his pokeball from my belt.

As soon as I did, Gary started counting up.

"1!"

"2!"

"3!"

"Nidoking, Front and Centre!"

"Let's go Shiftry!"

While Shiftry appeared in front of me, arms crossed and cool as a cucumber. A Nidoking appeared in front of Gary, one thickly muscled leg pawing through the ground and digging a small trench in the grass.

I had to withhold a whistle. Man Nidoking is badass looking. Bipedal, with a a massive gleaming horn on its head, a thick purple hide with sharp spines tracing down its back, and its white front absolutely ripped with muscle.

'Nidoking huh? A perfect pokemon for Gary, he probably caught a Nidorino, evolved it with a moon stone he bought right away and loaded it up with TM's.' I thought. Super easily to fully evolve and a massive move pool, it really was a pokemon that suited Gary for growing powerful quickly through a mass of TM's.

Now that I think about it, a lot of Gary's pokemon were pokemon that evolved through items. Heh, the guy was basically pay to win in the beginning of his journey, it's no wonder he was always two steps ahead of Ash.

"A Shiftry huh? First time I've seen one in person," Gary grinned and pulled out his pokedex. I couldn't hear anything from it due to the distance, but he nodded after a moment and stowed the pokedex away, "A powerful looking pokemon, but a grass type, my Nidoking is part poison type, looks like I have the advantage."

"Think of it as a handicap, you'll need it." I shot back. Shiftry was a powerhouse before I caught him, and he's leagues stronger than he was then now.

"You're kind of annoying you know that kid?" Gary huffed before lifting his hand and clicking his fingers again, "Gimme my tune girls."

Like trained performers, the group of beautiful girls all began to dance in place and wave their pom poms, "Gary, Gary he's our man, if he can't do it, no one can!" they cheered as one.

I rolled my eyes and heard Hilda gag in disgust behind me. If he wanted to waste time with shit like that, fine with me, "Sunny Day." I ordered.

Shiftry immediately lifted one arm, conjuring a reddish orange sphere in his leaf fingered hand and then tossing it high into the air.

It ascended rapidly into the air and expanded in size massively, becoming like a miniature sun and raining sunlight down upon us, the heat throughout the area picking up slightly.

"Oh, for me, you shouldn't have!" Gary laughed and pointed out, "Nidoking, Fire Blast!"

Huh, as expected.

Nidoking roared and threw its head forward, spitting out a massive orb of flame that rapidly expanded outwards into a five pointed star shape that shot through the air like a rocket, becoming larger and larger as it went.

It was a few feet above the grass, but the green underneath it turned charred black from the sheer heat it radiated without even touching it.

Not bad, he was taking advantage of Sunny Day powering up fire type attacks.

I've gotta admit, that is some power! This thing probably knows upwards of at least twenty moves, if not thirty or more.

Still, it's far too slow.

I didn't even bother telling Shiftry to dodge. One moment he was there, the next he was just gone as if never there to begin with. Shiftry was a speed demon for sure, my fastest pokemon on land by far and can keep up with Pidgeotto even without a speed enhancing attack.

And with Sunny Day up, his ability Chlorophyll is going full throttle and increasing his speed.

The massive flame star tore through Shiftry's previous position and hit nothing, flying up into the air and disappearing from view.

"The hell?!" Gary gaped, looking around wildly, his Nidoking not much better, "Where the heck did it go?"

To be honest, even I'm not sure, not that I'll tell him. Shiftry was so fast, even being used to all the fast paced combat my pokemon participated in during spars, I couldn't track him at all.

Gotta work on that.

"Extrasensory!" I called out, trusting Shiftry to have gotten in a good position.

There!

A blur appeared a split moment later a dozen or so feet to the right of Nidoking. It was Shiftry, eyes lighting up with golden power, and then a moment later, twin beams of golden light shot out and converged together into one massive beam and swept over Nidoking before it could even figure out what was going on at all.

It roared in pain as the psychic type energy took hold of its body and bodily lifted it up. Extrasensory was a nasty move, not only did anything caught up in it fall under the physical control of the user, the energy actually hurt whatever it touched.

"Nidoking!" Gary's eyes widened in shock.

"Pull it in and Solarbeam!" I quickly ordered before my opponent could come up with a counter.

Shiftry grunted and the golden beam emitted from his eyes acted like a tractor beam and reeled Nidoking quickly through the air towards him. As the dual poison and ground type did so, Shiftry cupped his hands together at his side, a glowing with sphere crackling into existence and expanding.

"Protect!" Gary shouted rapidly, just as the golden beam disappeared from Shiftry's eyes and he thrust his cupped hands outwards.

"Shift!" my pokemon roared and from his cupped hands, the orb of energy exploded outwards in a massive blinding white beam.

To Nidoking's credit, despite only just getting control of its body back at the last second, it crossed its powerfully muscled arms together, a sphere of protective green energy beginning to expand outwards around its body.

If it had a split moment more, it would probably have been successful.

The spherical barrier shattered like glass under Shiftry's Solarbeam and washed over Nidoking like a tidal wave from the ocean.

Nidoking roared in pain once again as the beam carried it through the air and further away. The beam only lasted for all of a few seconds, and when it did, the ground shook as Nidoking's heavy form slammed into it, limp and unmoving.
