Glad you love it! The blood in the openning sequence is the Targeryan blood line and each node represents the royal Targeryans with his sigils. The building that the blood flows in is old Valyria that king Vacerys building a model in his chamber.

Also, the stepstones are a bunch of mountainous islands in between Westeros and Essos. Corlys Valeryon has a big trading empire which these pirates in the stepstones are disrupting. He's been bringing this up in the council every episode but Viserys keeps ignoring him so he has to do something.

The reason they were so pushy for Laena and Viserys to marry is for a few reasons. 1. She’s Valyrian, he’s Valyrian. Their families both came from Valyria (basically akin to the Roman Empire in size and power) and they don’t want the blood to die out. 2. By marrying the rift between Rhaenys (well, more Corlys) + Viserys is null and void as what was seen as an insult to Rhaenys is made up for by tying the two together for at least another generation. 3. They’re family, Targaryen’s like to keep it in the family. Rhaenys is Viserys’ cousin so Laena is his cousin removed (fun fact: Viserys + Daemon’s parents were siblings, as were their grandparents). 4. As Laena is half Targaryen she can claim a dragon (Corlys covers it at the end that House Velaryon were never Dragonlords). Whilst Viserys no longer has a dragon it’s still two dragon riders marrying which is extremely sought after as only those with Targaryen can claim a dragon. 5. At this point in the story House Velaryon are the richest House. As in, they make the Lannister’s look poor rich. Is it creepy? Yes. Is it moral? No. Does it make a lot of sense? Absolutely.
