For our first EPL of the new year, we're listening to Haken's 2nd album. Visions is another concept album, and I thoroughly enjoyed my listen. This is now my fourth EPL for this band, and I'm realizing that they really don't have a weak album...I really like all their output. Enjoy!

It's funny you mention Mario during "Insomnia". They used to play a Mario song medley in that part of the song when they played it live, it sounded great and heavy.

Great video! I fell in love with Ross' voice too right from the beginning. But how about Einar from Leprous for a soaring progressive metal voice. :) You should listen to Star One - Prescience (Arjen's "side" project), it features Ross together with Michael Mills and it's an excellent combo (you know Mike as the AI from The Day That the World Breaks Down)!

Thanks, Doug! Love you analysis throughout. Shapeshifter is the song of the angels!

Love this album and its story. And the title track is my undisputed favorite song of all time. Timeless classic that I don’t think will ever be dethroned for me. Even though I love this album, I still rate Aquarius above Visions due to its flawless consistency. Aquarius is only beaten by Scenes From A Memory on my top 100 list. :D Thanks a lot for the reaction and review, Doug. Was refreshing to say the least!

Having never heard of Haken before, this is a wonderful discovery for me, and gives me optimism about the current generation of Prog musicians. It also makes me reflect that one of the great things about The Daily Doug is the sophistication and good taste of the Daily Doug members. I know this was Doug's own selection, but I'm sure it was the membership who alerted him (and me) to this great band. As ever, thanks Doug for your expertise and mindful reflections.

Without trying to sound too big headed as I am one of the few of the Patreon that love Haken. I think I can speak for all those and say You're welcome. Enjoy the rest of their catalog.
