This is our inaugural episode! And, I'm quite pleased with the result. We gathered for a little more than two hours and went through 10 eclectic and wonderful pieces of music in an 'instant reaction' format. It was fun for me to lead...and I hope it's fun for you to watch.

You need to be a Council of Dougs or Doug's Angels tier member to participate in these zoom sessions. The next one is scheduled for January 28.

The whole Pendragon's Masquerade Overture album is a true hidden gem. The whole band is seriously underrated. They are EXCELLENT! I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Buenos Aires back in 1997 during this album tour. It was a fantastic

A little more background to the album "A Scarcity Of Miracles": It was preceded by the 21st Century Schizoid Band. After musical training as a military bandsman Ian McDonald left the army, becoming a founder but brief member of King Crimson; after time as a founder member of Foreigner he had returned to the U.K. before 21SB came into being. Its members were M. Giles, P. Giles, I. McDonald, M. Collins and J. Jaksyzk (M. Giles left after a couple of tours, replaced by I. Wallace, also a past KC drummer.) Mel and Jakko were already regular musical partners, and Jakko was married to Michael Giles' daughter Amanda at the time, so this band seems like it was almost unavoidable. Its repertoire was mainly KC 69 to 74, with solo material from Michael Giles ('Progress'), McDonald's 'Let There Be Light' and Pt. 6 of 'Birdman', with Jakko's 'Catley's Ashes' being introduced later. Jakko had R. Fripp as a mentor for this gig, and in time they recorded improvisations together; the results were built upon by Jakko to give us 'A Scarcity Of Miracles'; together with the feedback generated by 21SB, this album seems to have given R.Fripp the will to assemble the final KC lineup that would tour from 2014 to 2021. [Surname pronounced JAK-chik btw.]
